I have only found one website after thirty minutes of looking.

http://www.rpmrons.com/index.html

These are for the 91-94 KA24DE

$711.20 Parts included in these master engine rebuild kits are: Pistons, rings, main and rod bearings, thrust washers (if applicable), jack shaft bearings (if applicable), cam bearings (if applicable), camshaft(s), lifters (if applicable), freeze plugs, gasket set, complete timing kit, and oil pump.

$842.82 EKU = ULTRA ENGINE KIT - contains complete gasket set, set of pistons and premium rings, main bearings, rod bearings, thrust washers (if applicable), timing belt, balance shaft bearings (if applicable), and a set of expansion plugs, oil pump, timing kit & water pump.

I am not sure if these are good prices or if they are even quality replacement parts. So if you don't mind please tell me how much you paid for your rebuild kit and were you got it.

I am not sure whether I will be building a sohc ka or dohc, so everyone is welcome to contribute.

thanks,
DbD

Find a semi-local engine rebuild/wholesaler. I rebuild engines all day long, and my brand of choice is ITM. They sell a very nice full gasket set. You can get itm cast rings or they give you the option to upgrade to hastings rings. As for the timing chain kit PCI makes a really really good kit. Pair all that up with a nice set of ROL headbolts and either the itm headgasket or the Rol (which is marginally better, as far as ka's go). Those prices are way high, they may or may not be decent kits, but you can get better stuff from your local engine rebuild wholesaler. I wouldnt suggest getting a full rebuild kit, piece it together with full gasket set, rings and or piston kit, and then a timing chain kit.

Really i figured buying a complete set would be the cheapest way to go. What is a good price to pay for a complete rebuild?

ka24e fully rebuilt (core trade in) runs about 900-1000. Thats what i sell them for, have 3 sitting in the shop. Considering the prices you found for a full rebuild kit, + all the necessary machine work will cost you 1100-1400 total.

Ka24de will cost more. Check out the local rebuild shops and ask if they do ka. Also check the machine shops to see their prices for their work, they will also be able to get you parts such as rebuild kits, pistons/rings, etc... Shop around. I would stay away from online purchases when it comes to engine kits personally
