i need a new rotor.. for sure.. any idea of how much everything would cost at a shop.. just ballpark.. i dont want to get ripped off too bad.. oy. i need to learn how to do this stuff.. but o well..
If you do a 4 wheel brake job at a shop (new rotors, new pads, bleed fluid) I would expect to pay around $300-$400. Yes, they charge you up the bum for labor. Of course, this also depends on what kind of rotors/pads you get.
Breakdown of cost:
$70 front rotors
$60 rear rotors
$50 front pads
$40 rear pads
$10 fluid
$140 for 2hrs @ $70/hr.
if you DIY,
$60/front rotors (nopi.com)
$50/rear rotors (same)
$45/front pads (pdm)
$35/rear pads (pdm)
$7/fluid
$0 labor.
DIY total comes out to be just under $200.

Doing brakes is something you should be able to perform yourself.
Steps: Front
Break the lug nuts loose
Jack up car and use jack stands. Chock rear tires and make sure the Parking brake is on.
Take off front tires
Take off caliper bolts. Pull caliper off, or tap it upward with small mallet
Hang the caliper on something..do not let it hang by the hose
See if rotor pulls off. If not, tap it from behind, it should slide off.
Take pads out of caliper.
Compress the piston with "C" clamp. Make sure your brake fluid cap is off and watch for fluid to overflow during compressing or the caliper.
Place new pads in caliper, slide new rotor on, bolt caliper back on. Top off fluid, put tires back on..lower car, torque lug studs.
Crank the car. First time you push the brakes, they will go way down. pump them a few times.
You are done.
Econo is:
Autozone rotors 50/pr
Audozone pads 13/pr
Brake fluid 99 cents
