California Speedway - Fontana, California
Thanks to the generous support of Drift Association LLC, we are proud to present to you The 2003 Nissan Owners Festival. This first-of-its-kind festival will take place at California Speedway located in sunny Fontana, California on Saturday, November 29th 2003. California Speedway is a premier multi-purpose racetrack, where some of America's greatest racing series are hosted. Located 40 miles east of Los Angeles, it is central to many of Southern California's finest points of interest, dining, entertainment and shopping.
Our event's focus is to bring Nissan owners together and stimulate involvement in sanctioned track events. At this festival, we offer you the opportunity to participate in either a Drifting School (staffed by highly-experienced drifting instructors) or an all-Nissan meet. In addition, we will have parts giveaways, food and drinks, and special Nissan car displays. Many vendors, who cater to Nissans, like KAAZ USA, Superior Nissan, and 5Zigen USA will be out there to show you their latest in Nissan-specific applications. Bring your friends and family, you all are welcome, because after all…we all love our Nissans!
I will post more registration and driving information once they are available, as well as more information regarding vendors.
For more information visit http://www.socal240sx.org or email
[email protected]
BTW this event is open to all Nissan cars!!!!!!!!!

more info on the "Drifting School" please..:)..for experienced drivers will it just be a track day?...or is this going to cater to people somewhat newer to the drifting scene and might be a bit slow and redundant for more experienced drivers?
basically is it ala a Drift Day? or an Open Track Day?..
thanks

It will be a standard Drift Association Drift Day event (officially called Drift Day 10 on their side)... except it will be similar to Drift Day 8 where there will be more beginners than advanced drivers. Most instruction will be done on smaller skidpad courses so the flow of the driving for the day will be pretty smooth.

thanks Alex...:)..i think i'll stick to open track days and competitions though..DD's are a great way to learn and get the basics...but after that they seem kinda slow and repetitive...
keep doing a great job though and i would SO encourage anyone looking to get into drifting to attend these events...so much to be learned from some very skilled instructors..

LOOK WHAT IT SAYS ON THE WEBSITE
"Every journey begins with one step. Koguchi, Ueo, Kumakubo- every single one of them was a beginner at one time. Now is your chance to step up and experience the rush of learning how to slide your car. No more excuses. Be it stock, modified, open-diff, even automatic, it's time to get your car out there and have fun! Not only is this event targeted for beginners, Nissan owners get first crack at registering!"

hmm, i missed that, sorrrry
but the DD10 info on the driftday website and the info on the socal240sx website doesn't match exactly and it is a bit confusing. neither one say anything about association with the other except for the bit about drift assoc. instructors.
oh well, whatevers, doesn't matter.

if it is the same as all other Drift Days then a T-Shirt and DD10 sticker should be included in your registration..

10.28.03 as of 4:27 pm there are 21 people already registered for this event. Moreover, two of the 21 aren't Nissans either. I was under the impression that this event was going to be an exclusively Nissan-only. Perhaps I am mistaken.

for the meet?..which it would make sense to be only nissan..lol..since it is a Nissan Owners Festival..lol..
or for DD10?..
cause Drift Days are open to ALL car makes and models..even Front Wheel Drive..there is, or should be, no prejudice in the Drift World..:)..especially considering that these are Car Control Clinics...not Nissan 'ONLY RWD' If-You-Drive-Anything-Else-You-Are-A-Retarded-Ricer Event..
;)
Well this is a all nissan event, not all nissans are rwd( ie:sentra, maxima, altima)

Please note that although Nissans are given priority, the drifting portion of the event is open to non-Nissan cars as we are in a collaborative effort with Drift Association.
So my point is: SIGN UP NOW OR ELSE YOU WILL SEE MORE NON-NISSAN DRIFT CARS OUT THERE.

In light of the recent fires that have consumed so much of Southern California, we have decided to change the November 29th Nissan Owner's Festival slightly.
All proceeds from this event will go towards relief efforts for the fires. Right now I am looking to have donations given to the Southern California chapter of the American Red Cross (thru KFWB 980AM). I will also set up donation boxes at the event so that people can do donations on-site.
I would only like to ask you fellow Nissan owners for a favor: Please, if you have not done so already, register for the event (either for the meet or for the drifting portion of the event) so I can figure out rough attendance levels and can calculate the amount of money we can raise for this good cause.
If any of you wish to help or want to know more information please email
[email protected] for more information. Please note that due to SEMA Show we will not be able to answer the emails in a timely manner between Nov. 1st thru 10th.
Even if you do not register for this event, please try to show up and give support to the sponsors and attendees at the event. Not only are we celebrating owning a Nissan/being a Nissan enthusiast, now we also band together in this time of need to show that car enthusiasts CARE for those that are less fortunate. The least we can do is give our support to those that have lost their entire lives in the fires.
Lastly, please check the various news sources for updates on the fires, and keep those that have been displaced in your thoughts and prayers.
Thank you very much.

Helmets must be DOT or Snell95 or above. Most motorcycle helmets exceed DOT and Snell specifications. The thing is, motorcycle helmets are specifically designed to absorb more severe impacts. However, helmets for cars don't have to meet such stringent specifications.

Oh, and if you're planning on getting serious about tracking your car, you might just want to buy a car helmet rated SA2000, since you're buying a helmet anyways. Some event organizers won't let you use a motorcycle helmet. You'll be fine for drift days with an MA95 helmet, but might as well plan ahead and not buy 2 helmets.

the A..hmmm...dunno..lol..

MA = Motorcycle
SA = Automobile

A few things:
1) Paying to get into venue only allows you to spectate; only people that have signed up for the meet are eligible for the giveaways (which right now may include some pricey Nismo products!).
2) The drift event is administered by Drift Association; the price you pay for the drifting portion is seperate from our event (the meet).
3) Spectators are NOT allowed in Lot 12 due to restrictions levied by California Speedway. They can watch from beyond the access road guardrail.
These fine vendors have been confirmed for our event:
5Zigen USA
Cartune Motorsports*
Jspec.com
Kaaz USA
Endless USA
Hot Machine*
McKinney Motorsports
Mossy Nissan of San Diego
Motorex
Pacific Rim
SR20Store.com
Superior Nissan of Puente Hills*
Asterisked (*) vendors will donate prizes for our games & give-aways.
More vendors will be added as confirmed.

A couple things to add:
1) Because of the seperate administration of the event by SoCal240SX.org and Drift Association only those that register for the car meet will receive a Nissan Owners Festival t-shirt; those participating in the drifting side of the event can purchase an event shirt for a discounted price at the event.
2) Only those that register for the car meet are eligible for the free giveaways from the vendors. There will be no raffle tickets sold for these items (which are high-quality items worth a lot more than the $25 registration fee! Right now the odds of winning an item are better than 2 to 1! I've avoided going to the local touges for a month just so I can attend this event. I've poured hours of sweat and toil getting my S14 track ready. However, as this event draws near, I still feel unprepared. I know I'm going to mess up and end up running over a bunch of cones. But I don't care. I'm not a D1 driver and my S14 is practically stock. I'm going to go out there and have the most fun as I can.
So if you guys see a champagne/bling bling gold zenki S14 with Land HO stickers, that would be me. Please don't hesistate and approach me to say to whats up. Offer me a few pointers if you saw me doing something funky. See you folks there! peace...

Do you guys now if we have to Preregister for the meet or if we can just show up and pay the $25 dollars at the door. I don't know if my car will be ready to go and if it is it might now be ready till friday night. So I don't want to register and find out that my car won't be ready.
Anyone know? Please let me know guys. Thanks. David.

Hopefully your car will be repaired by then...?? I don't like hearing about cars being out of action. Whatever it is, I hope you can make it.
Yep, that car is history! My friend Zach owns it and was driving it last month on the touge and crunked it up! The guardrail owned him, he slid head first right into it. Sad story. Didn't even own the car for more than 14 days and spent 8 of those days on the touge. Bottomline, drive safe out there! Guardrails save lives.
Last month I kissed a 7 inch high curb going 25 mph sideways in the rain. Messed up a lot of suspension components! After two weeks of waiting and hours of sweat and toil, everything is good to go now. So I ended up getting a bunch of new goodies. Anyhow, I'll see you there V.. if not.. see you up at "touge"

Drive safe at touge? HAHAHAHAHHAHA.
Sorry but if you need touge to learn or improve your skills you are looking in the wrong areas to learn how to drive. Not to mention you put yourself at risk and others at risk.

question for alex chang, regarding the meets starting time:Alex what is the window for a meet registrant on saterday to bring their car and perform parking and administrative duties? Basically is there a limited time that registered cars can arrive and be parked.
The overboost ticket says registration begins at 8:00AM. My questions is 8am till when?

Yes, drive safe on touge. What's so funny?
I enjoy driving on canyon roads, it's a lot of fun. The more I drive, the more I improve. I don't think it's cool that you reply to my post acting all holy and shiEt telling me that I put myself and others at risk. Unless you're going to go over risk assessments and statistics on the dangers of driving; a person puts themselves and others at risk everytime they put a car in drive.
Get off my ass.. I'm not here to start a debate about touge with you.

This will be my last post on this subject...
My point was that you said "drive safe" at touge, yet the ONLY REASON why people go up to the mountains is to drive to the limits. How can you learn anything if you drive safe? HOW?
Sorry, but my point was towards MINIMIZING risk. I pay money to go to the track so that risk is minimized, so I can run and not worry about oncoming traffic or fallen rocks or deer or other things that get in the way of my driving.
I drive on the track because I can get instruction such as this when I go to Laguna Seca on Jan 3rd 2004:
http://www.pca-ggr.org/pdf/Tracks_LS.pdf
Driving is dangerous, but at least when I go on a track many unknown variables are factored out and if I do end up screwing up I know that it is me, as a driver, that screws up. And I learn from my mistakes, not from the mistakes of others.
Yeah perhaps I was holy and shiet, but hey, someone's got to lay out the verbal punishment before it becomes physical punishment. Let's not forget the guy who died a few months ago at GMR and also the guy who died after the M3 meet in Newport Beach... both took unnecessary risks that every driver faces on a public road.
No amount of "it was safe and there were NO CARS" can justify aggressive driving on a public, OPEN road as "safe". NOTHING. Even if there were no cars, what's to say there are no animals? No patches of oil? No patches of dirt? If you can control your car like Ueo then perhaps I can give you the benefit of the doubt, but since you are using it to LEARN I strongly suggest trying other venues to learn before you destroy your car.
I speak from experience: the first (and only) time I got into an accident that I caused, I was showboating to a friend on a deserted road 7 years ago about how cool RWD was. I hit a patch of oil that seemed dry on the road, and ended up with a $1400 suspension bill.

P.S. I wrote what I wrote for a point... and like someone else said if you miss my point it's your loss.

The event was dope! Track events are awesome!!! This was my first one, now i'm hooked!!!
Oh yeah, hey kat240, i was drifting my automagic too! and i have an open diff! I was in the black s14 kouki with mesh wheels in the front and s13 tear drop alloys in the rear. My drifting skills are total weak sauce, but it was fun just being out there! I'm looking foward to more track events and just getting better at my driving skills.
P.S. Hey you're in San Diego too? Cool! Have you been to any of the SD meets or anything?

props for the auto-drifters! i think i'd have a hard time drifting an auto. as long as you're having fun, that's what's important.. kat240, i saw you down at the skidpad i think a couple times. you were looking pretty good out there:goyou: btw, anybody have photos and plan on posting?

The meet was super fun...thanks for putting it on socal240sx! It was really nice to finally be able to put a few new faces to names, and to see many of my socal friends. Congrats to Glen for winning the award for best engine bay! Also congrats to Danny for winning best of show with his datsun 510 with sr!
It was well worth the drive!

kat240:
Drifting an automagic wasnt too bad. What IS hard is the open diff thing. Breaking lose was the easy part, bringing it back and maintaining long drifts and linking turns was tricky. It wasnt very smooth. Other than it was fine. However, I'm still gonna swap in the 5-speed at the end of the year though.
By the way, what model 240 did you drive?
s13chica:
Was your car the hot pink one with the s13 silvia front end? That car was badass! One of my favorites of the show actually! Nice Job!!! :D
kat240
11-30-2003, 07:03 PM
yeah, but i had a VLSD and it was still hard to maintain my drifts.. arrghh.. i had a lot of help from the instructors though, and i learned a lot ! i was the one with the blue s14, the only one that color, and one of the only two girls there
i wish i had known you, cuz i woulda watched and see what you did !
s13chica: you're taking your hot pink car this friday, right? ;)
kat240: you should go with us at buttonwillow this friday... stay away from the light pole!!! you make my heart jump everytime! good job tho...

Jay:
You have to represent automatic pride at least one more time at a track event. i say screw finals and go to DD11. :D. you were tearing it up for an auto before your coilovers got all screwy.
Kat:
if you were in the blue s14, im pretty sure i saw you around a couple of times. its very cool to have females represent drifting, and with an auto no less. my hats off to you. when i had an auto all i ever did was powerslide around. im in san diego too. i hope to see you again at an upcoming event.

Automagic pride! lol!! :p
Jason:
Actually though, i am seriously considering it. I really want to go to dd11!!! My drifting was sooo weaksauce, but i enjoyed it nonetheless!!! You did really well yourself.
kat240:
Now i remember! I saw you out there, you were doing really well!!! Especially on the main course.....you did a helluva lot better than me! I got OWNED on that course and so did like 10 cones! Like Jason, (s15driftdreamer) said, its really cool to see females out there drifting and tearing it up!! Good job. Hope to see you at the next SD meet.
