Sileighty and Silvia conversions: Cool or Rice?

I've noticed that a lot of people seem to be hating on cars like mine. I was wondering if we could get views from both sides of the arguement. I enjoy drifting and my Sileighty, and now thanks to Superstreet, everythings blown up overnight. There are benefits, though; more events, and more tech articles in mags and stuff. I love the look of my car, and I love its turbocharged engine, and almost perfect balance. For as much as silvia faces are becoming a "trend" as most of you guys state, mine is still the only one I have seen in the midwest.

I don't mind conversions as long as they look clean and they belong on the make of the car ( all nissan conversions stay on nissans , honda's on honda's, subaru's on subaru's, etc.)..I really really want to put a S15 front end on my fastback..I think that looks friggin sexy ass hell...Plus S15's are my second favorite cars.

??? That is the way the coupe was originally intended. It looks MUCH better with the Silvia front than those butt-ugly pop-ups!

they also got a kit for the CAvy and teg. they also have the Kouki s14 conversion for the teg too. :bash: :hammer: and whats worse is that when i was a youngin and didnt no about the 240sx i wanted to get a teg and do teh s14 conversion :wtc: i am a horrible person :cry:

I want a silvia face for my coupe so bad, but then I look on the net and like every coupe has one now.....i'm not sure if I still want to do it as muc but damn it looks good. Sil80's look pretty cool in my opinion, I just wish my car looked the way it did when it did when it was born overseas lol.... ;)

I see nothing wrong with making your car look better. If you like the look of, say, the S13 front end, then do what you want. I am trying to stop looking at things as if I have to avoid doing what I want because others will accuse me of being a ricer. BTW, I don't like putting Nissan headlights on a Honda or vice versa, that just seems silly.

every few YEARS i'll see a civic that looks kinda neat but the hoe is still JUST A CIVIC. i don't care if the typeR was put on by the company owner... still just an econobox.

i always wonder why people don't soup up 240's instead of retarded tegs and civics. real sports cars have rear wheel drive. it's as simple as that.

I had a silvia front on my fastback, but started to realize that I liked the flip ups more, that and I want a kouki fastback front bumper. So I got rid of the Silvia conversion and got myself some kouki tailights to start my kouki conversion. sometimes I miss it, and cry in my sleep.

Sil-80's and Strawberry faced 240's are old-school and deserve respect. I think the conversion is just one more way to make your car.......your car!

I agree totally I'm new here and think this is a really cool site but I've been reading a lot of flaming for things that are "rice" for christs sake I've seen ricey cars before and what you people are calling rice in my opinion is not rice at all. Rice seems to be thrown around this forum like its going out of style. Just because something doesn't hit you as being just right doesn't mean its automatically rice.
I was reading a prime example earlier some one was say that a frigin blow off valve was rice and if you like the sound your a ricer WTF whats next if you got a Front mount intercooler it rice and if you like that way it looks your a ricer. COME ON PEOPLE!
I say do what you want everyone has there tastes in cars I certainly wont call it rice unless you decide to put all the vinyl stickers at wall mart on your car.
I'll probably get flamed hardcore over this but I don't care it was really annoying me.

My coupe has a Silvia front end, but with dual projectors. Projectors work better with the more rounded look of the fastback, while halogens work better with coupes. I'm still deciding whether or not I want halogens.

Silvia front end was made for coupes. 'Tis teh sex.

I totally agree...I have a 1989 240sx coupe with the usdm front and i really wana get that swapped out for the jdm front...its jus smoother...right now it looks like they just glued two different cars together. :down:

Yeah, but there have been several people on this board that have said they wanted a blow off valve just cause they liked the sound and thats it. They couldnt give a flip about the turbo, just the blow off valve. Thats rice. Almost all cosmetic mods that you put on your car and you aren't using it the way it was intended, then its rice.

Example: Having a boost gauge on your car and not having a turbo.

sil-80s look like butt, but silvia conv. coups are pretty nice. i still like a coup with a kouki 180 nose the best. id probably trade my FB for a comparable onevia style car.

i agree. in fact, unless you have a straight track car, with tuned body mods for aerodynamics...its rice. but i still love my ricy body kit, and will like it even better when my ricy wheels get here:)

nah, the unpainted CF hood and typical 240 mods on your car make it ricey. maybe it'll fill out with new wheels but right now i see plain white rice... especially since you resurrected a thread that's been dead for two months. :)

There is nothing wrong with building you car to the way you want it to be. I think the conversions add a class of individuality.

I don't think it's rice, but at the same time I think 1) the body lines of the S14 aren't right for the strawberry front end unless you widen the rear 2) I'm tired of people doing the conversion and not doing a good job. Yeah, I understand body work is very difficult and expensive, but if you're gonna do it, just wait till you can do it right, so you don't have some 1/2 assed piece of shit looking body job with the bumpers not fitting flushly and a huge gab between the fenders and the hood. It looks like crap, and it is most definitely tacky.

silvia s are awesome thats gonna be my second project. but as fot fastbacks i like the flip lights better but the sil80 still looks super gangster! props to everyone with a clean conversion!
