I have a 95 240sx with a blown KA. I have a chance to pick up a 97 KA for a pretty good price along with the ECU but no harness. My understanding, from what I read here and other forum pages is that I will have no issues using the the 95 ECU and Harness on the 97KA as long as I swap out the intake manifold because of the whole OBDI to OBDII change 96-98 S14s underwent.

I just want some confirmation from somebody who knows from experience about this swap. On a different forum a member brought up the CAS[Crank Angle Sensor] but Im not sure why yet. I don't know how that would make it problem to swap in the 97KA since that sensor connects directly to the transmission from the bellhousing and detects misfires. Not entirely sure though of its importance in reference to the swap...

If anyone knows of a place in SoCal where I can find a 95KA from a reputable shop please let me know. I'd prefer to buy one from a 95 . However, if someone knows for sure that I can make the 97KA work without issues[no CEL etc..] go ahead and chime in. I'm a day away from buying the engine and just want to make extra sure I'm not getting into a big mess with this.

Recap:

97KA in 95 with stock ECU and Harness from 95

Thanks in advance. I know this has been asked before, I just want to make sure Im doing the right thing.

Various components change between the 95 (especially ealry 95) and later model engines. Unique smog items may also play a role with interchangeability.

To answer your question, late model longblock engines will interchange with 95 and also earlier engines. There are a few differences between the pre 95 and later KA series engines. Swap the 95 intake manifold and or swap solenoids including vacuum line onto the 97 engine to correspond with 95 setup.

If rebuilding of your 95 engine is an option, text or call me at 626.512.3246

Thank you for responding. Didn't think anyone was going to respond. I did some further reading shortly after making the post and in the past few days. Everything you mentioned is well corroborated by the 240 community as i found out. I was ready to buy a 97KA with good mileage pending a compression test but the kid sold it to someone else, even though we had a week long agreement. I guess money supersedes a man's word these days. Finding an S14 KA is much harder than I expected. I got quotes from wrecking yards for a 95 KA for $750 + taxes with around 100K miles supposedly and 3 month warranty. To be honest though I just don't trust the reliability of an engine pulled out of a wrecked car without compression numbers. It's going to be a little more expensive but I've decided to rebuild the original motor and go from there. I'd be given a year warranty. Engine is already out so in a couple weeks it should be up and running.

Thanks for the info Mario.
