View Full Version : Rear Caliper Keeps Seizing

I'm having an issue with my rear driver side brake caliper. I've tried THREE different calipers and the same issue keeps happening. I've installed the caliper and bled out the system. When the car is still jacked up and the pedal is held down, the caliper holds onto the rotors strong. When the pedal is let go, the wheel rotates freely (just as it should).

The problem is, after about 10 to 15 minutes of driving (when the car warms up), the driver side rear caliper seizes up. By the time I get to my destination I can smell the pads burning up and the entire wheel is hot. None of the other calipers do this, only the rear driver side.

I have no heat shield on my exhaust manifold. And no heat protection on my MBC or booster. Can heat cause an issue as such?

I have reason to believe it may be a stuck ebrake cable. Will check it out when I get home from work and report back.

If anyone has any other suggestions please post, thanks.

Stuck ebrake cable is the most likely culprit. It could also be a collapsed brake line (soft line) acting as a one way valve.

Figured it out. It ended up being the slide pins on the caliper bracket being all rusted out. So I knocked them out, sanded off the rust and re-applied with grease.

100% working order now. Gonna need new pads though because all the heat caused one to crack :\

Yea you are definitely supposed to clean the slides and pad hardware and regrease every brake job.

Definitely a nice catch tho congrats.
