i bought a s14 that the previous owner had done a 5speed swap on. everything runs smooth except that the speedo doesnt work. now im guessing he left the auto harness on there and the speedo connector dont fit. another way i assume he left the auto tranny harness on is because there are a bunch of unconnected plugs just hanging from the transmission area below my car. now my question is if i can hack the speedo plug in order to fit the tranny( splicing or plug-n-play) or do i have to look for a new lower harness. any advice would help before i spend some dough.:l101:

I had a similar problem to yours a month ago after I finished my swap. (It turned out to be the speedo/cluster was bad though). However, I re-used the auto trans harness because I could not source the 5 speed lower harness. I just soldered/spliced the reverse lights and plug the vss and that was that.
At that time, I did not know the cluster was bad so I thought I had messed up the wiring work so I send my spare auto harness to WiringSpecialties and they did an auto-to-manual lower harness for me for $70 with several new plugs.
Everything works like is supposed to now.

the speed sensor plug is the same on both the manual and auto lower harness.
