cooling set up

For the Drifters, if you were to choose ONE between a radiator, Mishimoto electric fan or oil cooler, which one would you choose?
I have a Stillen increase in size oil pan on my 350z. I don't feel like you really need the oil cooler because you don't drift for like 20 mins consistantly especially if you have a 1 qt increase in size oil pan. If i get an oil cooler, i gotta put 7 qt of engine oil every time i change oil..:wackit:
But you'd need an electric fan to cool down while you wait in line or something.

Sounds like you need a 2nd job more than anything.

The way you said it, oil cooler is better than radiator or fans?
i'm thinking rather than putting in 7qt of oil than 6 qt, i can change the oil more often like once every 2500 miles. depends on how much i obuse

Z's are notorious for bullshit oil hatred, so yes, more oil the better on those cars. The factory radiator works pretty well, although Koyo stuff is cheap enough of an upgrade (plus it retains those cool factory upper mounts) that it's not a bad idea either.

2500 miles is kidna overkill, but then again the VQ is probably burning it anyway so you may be on target ;) Factory fans on a Z are good too. Good buddy of mine is runnign a reliable (odd I know) turbo Z on track with factory cooling setup with issue. JWT pan spacer and life is golden.

Hello ,being a 350z owner and track day guy. I would say do the oil cooler first if there has to be an order to things. The VQ is very hard on its oil,& it seems to break itdown rather quickly ,not to mention the burning off of it too.

Heres what i would do get mishimoto radiator they are fairly cheep then get a nice oil cooler from SUMMIT Racing,done deal.

Please use AN fittings none of that barb fitting & hose clamp stuff!!!!!

How would you know if you need an oil cooler or not? 350z has an oil PRESSURE gauge. no oil temp. gauge.

When your oilpress at idle is lower than normal(30ish psi) .Or you want to see around 60psi at 3000rpm . This is one way to know that your oil has thermally broken down. SOO if this is the case within a short timespan then a cooler will help.:D

My last oil change, the idling PSI was little under 30 PSI (the lowest increment) with mobile 1 0w40. It used to be little over 30 but it dropped after some autox events. I found out that the oil level dropped a little which caused the PSI to drop. i didn't like mobil because it often gave me this grinding noise at cold start up. So really, low on oil pressure doesn't tell you if you need a cooler...................................+.+

Correct it doesnt tell you directly that you need a cooerl.What Im saying is if your degrading your oil quicly(viscosity breakdown),you might want to add a cooler to help extend the life of your oil.

Pressure drop is a quick tell tell sign that something is up.

From your stand point/veiw ,the only thing that will give YOU a solid answer if you need it or not is a temp gauge.

Trust me it will not hurt to have it,& like said above the VQ is known to kill its oil..........................++
