Hey, i just(by just i mean today) put a B&M SS in my car and on the first drive it was quiet, now it makes a rattling sound, more noticeably at lower RPM's, most of the time. the only time it stops is when i push in the clutch or put it in neutral. It shifts fine and all, but i am worried/annoyed. Any ideas would be helpful. I'm pissed cause i bought the new version, followed their directions to a T, and shelled out a wad of cash that i really probably shouldn't have spent and now i'm stuck with this noise...i knew that install went way too easy....

i dont know what you mean by the rattle you should be hearing, but the shifter makes noise, there is no way around it, if you used the b&m shift knob, that is where your rattle is coming from, since it is 2 pieces and made of metal, it rattles alot even though you use the o ring. if you used your stock shift knob, or some other aftermarket one, well, then your probably hearing the noise from the transmission that is trasfered through the shifter because of the metal bushing the shifter uses, i dunno how loud your rattle is, but crank up the stereo, or i guess learn to live with it, mine doesnt rattle noticably til around 6000 rpm, so its kind of a shift indicator for me.

i'm just making sure...i know everyone gets the high-rpm rattle, just wanted to know if mine was something bad that i might have messed up on the install (how i dont know) or whatever.

the rattle is more of a car to car thing, some ppl get more rattle than others. i wouldnt worry about it, if it fails, jus warranty it :)

This rattle - does it sound like a sort of dry bearing noise? If you are using the stock shift knob does it go away when you change the position of the knob, or pull on the shifter slightly?
Well, that's what mine does... It drives me crazy. I have a shift knob off of a maxima that seems to make less noise because it doesn't have a weight in it.
I haven't found a good solution yet.

I know what you mean mine does too. It has nothing to do with the install its just the metal scraping against metal. It is annoying I know just turn some music on and you won't hear it.

use some gaffers tape on the shifter, just one wrap (or that white paperey tape most households have) on the shifter and then screw the stock knob back on. Thats where my rattle was from when using the stock shifter knob.
Now its quiet.
