I swapped in a KA and a 5 speed in my 89 240 and I've been through a lot with this little project but it's still not done. There seems to be a delay when I let go of the clutch. When I let go the engine revs and the car goes forward just fine, it just doesn't have the normal feel of engagement. I can't spin the tires in 1st at all. Any ideas?

Try setting the clutch pedal closer to the floor.

Are you running on the clutch that came in the 5spd, or did you install a new (aftermarket/stock?) clutch?
It could be as simple as your clutch being worn/old/dead (i.e. slipping.) ... I have to agree with 240silvia though, before you do anything else, try adjusting the clutch pedal, and failing that, check your clutch MC (fluid level, for leaks etc) and if you still can't figure it out, maybe bleed your clutch system.
Good luck!

Inside the car, run your hand along the firewall up to the Clutch Master Cylinder. Feel around the rubber boot for leaks. If there is any fluid in there, you will need to replace your Clutch Master Cylinder. I just did it, $60 at advance. Also, lay down on the passenger side of your car, look at your transmission. There is a piece, with a line connected to it, with a rubber boot on the outside of the transmission. That piece is your master slave cylinder. Get someone in your car, to push down the cluch, while it is running, and see how far it moves, it should move an inch. If if moves more than an inch, you will usually have to replace it, and if it doesn't move an inch, try adjusting the pedal. Also, Peel back the boot with your fingers and if there is brake fluid coming out of there, you need to buy another master slave cylinder. I just did it, $18 at advance. Then bleed the system. Doing all of these things should take care of your problem.
