Hey, I have a 1990 240sx, the consult plug looks something like this:

http://i561.photobucket.com/albums/ss53/Jemadness/IMG00106-20110404-1339.jpg

I am trying to repin it to the 1993 consult port so i can plug this is:

Its supposed to plug into a 91 and up 240sx consult plug

info or wiring diagrams would be extremely helpful.

I am colorblind and wiring is a pain in my ass.....please help

If your running a sohc ecu you dont have consult and it wont work. If your running a 91+ ecu youll connect your consult plug to the ecu loom. That plug is nothing and the wires on it wont help you.

If you have a dohc engine and ecu ill post some instructions later.

Ok, So I dont have any s13 ka24de ecu pinouts handy on this computer but on my photobucket I do have the s13 sr ecu pinouts, and I know for a fact that at least the consult pins are the same for the s13 sr and s13 kade (as well as many other pins are the same).

http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn40/4x4le/ecu%20pinouts/sr20det.jpg

You need 7, 14, 15
You can use 36 for power and I use the ecu mounting bracket for ground usually.

Hope this helps.

The junk yard.91-98 240s have them, 91and up sentras although i think they stop having them sometime after obd2.
Allot of your mid 90s nissans have them and they are located inside the fuse panal

it's called a checker box connector, nissan dealers have a box they plug into to check for codes instead of flashing. what you have is a generic obd2 connector, you can't use your plug and play on that, and there is no way to wire an obd2 connector into the s13 89-90 sohc harness, the ecu is way to old.

what you need is at your local dealer in the connector kits in the parts house
part # - J-48817-139
they were force fed to the dealers about a year ago, we never use them so ask to see the kits, tray #4 top row 3 from the left. they come w/ about a 3 inch pig tail for all wires.

wait, are you saying that nissan dealers have a bunch of consult connectors they dont want? and that is the part number for them? I might have to go make a deal....

Do I understand this right...

Can I use a DOHC KA ecu to run a SOHC KA - just plus & play?

Seems like I would need to use a DOHC MAF and Tach? Right?

I'd like to add a Consult port to a 1990 SOHC KA if that's even possible.

Thanks

No, see post number 2.

The only sohc ecu with consult capabilities is the Stanza ecu, but you will need to have that socketed and a 240 tune burned onto a chip for that to work.

A nistune board in a sohc s13 ecu gives you consult capabilities without the need of a consult port or consult cable. A printer usb cable from the ecu to laptop will work, but you need nistune on the computer too, cant use datascan afaik

Why do you want consult so badly ? It really is useless on these cars, theres no info available and you cant flash your ECU with it as it is using EPROM.

If you want on the fly mapping, get a nistune (NOT the consult one)

The info available is just as useful as consult on other ecus. You can monitor all of the sensor voltages. That can help diagnose problems.

you dont need that. There are built in tests in the ECU, and they will help as much as consult would.

so with these built in tests are you able to monitor maf voltage, coolant temp, tps voltage, injector pulsewidth and duty cycle, timing, and iacv? All at tue same time? As well as log all of these parameters? It sounds like allot for your brain to process, the little light would have to blink pretty fast......

I dont know, i use a nistune. This way i can log all these infos in my computer and have a friend make adjustments on maps as i drive.

There is no point in getting all these infos if you cant do anything about it, really.

ECU self test can tell if a sensor is down, that is quite useful. Why would you want MAF voltage, timing and injector pulsewidth if you cant map your ECU ? Sounds quite useless to me.

It helps you troubleshoot many things. If you see maf voltage spike or drop off at certain rpms, or see coolant temp spike or drop off randomly you can diagnose issues with wiring or sensors that way.

I guess you wouldnt believe me if i told you how many non tunable cars i have fixed with datascan and a consult cable.

Also, with consult you can lock basetiming for setting your timing, and you can clear self learn which enables you to reset your tps closed voltage.

Bringing this back from the dead! I have a S13 SR20DET in my car and I'm running the nistune to tune my car, the tuner told me that my consult plug is the wrong one (1990 S13) so I got the grey one from a 95 sentra. So my question is this, are these two the same but just different color wires?

The first pic I found online, the second is the 95 sentra

He told you it was the wrong one? What do you mean? Or did your tuner tell you your car doesn't have a consult onnector?

89 and 90 models didn't have the consult connectors. You have to wire them in.

The colors don't matter. Its all just rubber covering copper wiring for protection

He told me I needed the grey consult plug. I have a black one in the driver's side kick panel and I thought that was the consult plug. What I meant to say was the pin positions on the new plug. But I found a diagram finally, so does anyone know how to wire this thing into the ecu?

Its simple.

You will need to look at the ecu plug on your engine harness and find pins 7,14,15 and 47.
Using a pinout diagram of course.

Pins 7,14 and 15 lead to the dash connector. You can either unpin them from the dash connector, as well as unpinning the consult connector, then put the pins where they go into the consult connector.

Or you can keep the wires on the consult connector and tap them into the wires that go to the dash connector.

47 is the ecu power. You will need to tap into that wire on the harness.

You will also need a ground. I grounded directly to the chassis. You can do the same, or you can find a ground in the harness and tap into it.
