Hey guys, I have a red top SR20 i swapped into a 93 240sx. the engine was in my 180sx last year so i know the engine itself is/was fine (basically stock, 2871, 550cc, bolt ons). i bought a brand new wiring specialties wiring harness, spec stage 3 clutch with a spec alumn flywheel. besides that i didnt change much (same tune, same mafs etc etc) did a bunch of new oem gaskets and stuff but never took the head apart or anything like that.

I went to start the car finally last night, it cranked very slowly, almost like the battery was low (but it is brand new). when i pushed the clutch pedal in the car fired up, almost as if there was a pile of resistance not letting the starter spin the motor to fire up (letting the clutch out the car would start to die out, but did not seem to creep forward or anything). the car ran for only about ten seconds and made a pretty steady whine noise as it cranked as well as when it was running. after the car stalled out the oil level was much higher than normal. drained some oil, no fuel or coolant. fuel pressure and oil pressures were normal during the ten second run. after the car stalled out there was a bunch of smoke that came out from the engine bay as well. now when i go to start it up the starter just clicks and nothing moves I am thinking that maybe the clutch is no good and that could explain the whine, smoke and resistance starting. its possible the starter is junk now too. not too sure why the oil level was higher. i did install a new oil cooler, maybe an air lock? any help or advice would be so great, sorry for the long ass story. thanks a lot!

so i pulled out the starter today and it looked like this. never full retracted back. i have a push button start but the solenoid wire has no power to it unless pushed in. seems odd. any thoughts?? thanks

cant tell if its because of the shadow but it looks bent.

Either replace it or get it rebuilt

Looks hella bent. I have a extra SR starter if u need one, it's been swapped out with the KA.

Now the question is why is the starter bent? was it like that when you put it on? clutch or flywheel probly arent torqued corectly and check lines to oil cooler

I went through two starters in two days. The enjuku replacement doesn't spin anymore. And this oem one I have been using for five years without an issue. I made sure I tightened the entire clutch system properly but I could have made a mistake I suppose.

get it tested and it it is bad contact Ken at enjuku racing, and Im sure he'll hook you up with a another one

I think what happened was the solenoid got stuck engaging the gear then burned the winding of the starter. Just replace your starter and I think you should be ok.

I am thinking maybe the flywheel is machine wrong. That's about the only thing that makes senses at this point

well it is a SPEC flywheel.

but if the flywheel was messed up you would know it, you would feel a shit ton of vibration.

Like Napz said it looks like the solinoid got stuck.

just seems weird i would burn up two starters. the isis starter burnt up after a dozen tries at cranking the motor, not even having the car started. and an oem one that i have been using for 4 - 5 years with no issues. with both starters in the car cranked very slowly, like my battery was almost dead. then with the clutch pedal pushed in on the oem starter the car fired right up. thats whats making me second guess if the spec flywheel is good or not.

how long are you cranking the stater for?

Starters have whats called a "Duty Cycle"

If you crank it for 20 seconds you need to let it rest for 30 seconds before trying again. (Time varies depending on use and motor)

Also if you have crappy grounds (will result in slow cranking) it will over heat the starter faster
