This 240 that im lookin at buying has an rb20 swap. The guy says that when he gets on it, it "sputters" a little bit. He says it is either the fuel pump or the fpr. I feel stupid for asking this, but does that sound reasonable?
Also, he said the tail lights stay on all the time. You have to disconnect the battery every time you turn it off to not kill the battery. Would that be a really hard problem to fix?
Hes offering it for a really good price and im probly going to pick it up, but i dont want to get into more than i can handle. I need it to be realiable as my dd. So any info will be verrry appreciated.
Thanks

not much but, i think with the tail lights, he could be using the incorrect bulbs. i know i had a similar problem with my 14 once and couldnt figure out why. i replaced it with a bulb identical looking to it, but it wasnt right because the light stayed on all the time. make sure bulbs are to factory specs. (if it says 3044w and you pick up the 3044, it will not work right because of circuitry)

its possible
sock filter could be clogged....pump could be taking a shit...also there are several other things that could be wrong...knock sensor...CTS..etc...ask him if the ECU has any codes.
for the taillights...well if its the Brake lights it could be the rubber stopper is broken/missing from the brake pedal. its a stupid easy fix. other then that the only think i could think of is a wiring issue.

rb's have problems with their coil packs, that could be your sputtering problem.... i've driven a rb20 powered s13 with the same problem, the coil packs often crack when the get old and the spark grounds to the valve cover....

I would change some of the basics first. Such as Fuel pump, Fuel pump sock, Fuel filter, and Spark plugs.
Does the sputter occur at any certain time like at a certain boost or RPM?

he says he actually just got a new warlboro fuel pump and it still has the same problem. so im thinking its something with ignition, like plugs or something. but i figure it i do buy it, ill just give it a basic tune up and see if that helps.
he said the sputter occurs at full boost. idk if that helps with identifying the problem or not.

Check coil packs, check spark plugs, check plug gap. Above stock boost, you're going to want to run around .8mm gap in an rb20. bkr7e plugs are fairly popular for lightly modded 20's as well. I've never had the full on sputter that you describe, but I've had a miss around 5500rpm which was cured by gapping the plugs tighter.
Source: Owned an hrc32 for the last 2 1/2 years, so I've grown quite competent with the engine. Also 20's are awesome and anyone who says otherwise has never driven a 20 powered car.
