Are there still no solutions to this problem?
I am swapping a series 1 rb25 into a 1996 240
I have to go through emmisions by law, I know there are always other ways to beat the system but i'd like to be able to go through testing.
I HAVE searched and read if anyone knows any info to point me to i would appreciate it.
Thanks
Goodluck, this is why I sold my 96 zenki.I couldn't mod it due to the obd2.The motor you are referring to was never set up to be obd2 compatible.Japan never recoginized obd2 in the late 90's.Only way i found around it was to register my vehicle in another county with no emissions or move there.

Yeah this is the tragedy about obd2 emissions. It really limits your engine swap ability. Now, that being said. There may actually be a way around this. Its going to sound a lot more complicated than it really is. To pass obd2 emissions only two things need to happen. Your check engine light needs to work properly (go through its self test turn on and then off when the car is running), and your readiness monitors need to all be set. In order to do this your ecu needs to see no faults with the sensors. Theoretically you could do this if you wired your ecu up and installed certain sensors. You could do it anywhere. You could do it in the trunk and run the wires to connect to the obd2 port in its normal location. As long as you hooked up power, ground and the sensor wiring for the bare minimum sensors required to not trip your check engine light it should work. Your readiness monitors could still be set even with the rb25det. You would have to have 2 o2 sensors or one "pre cat" with an o2 sensor simulator "post cat" so that it could set readiness for the cat function. Your evap system would have to be working, which is fine for a 96 240. Install a check valve in its vacuum hose so you dont boost the solenoid and once again wire it up to the ka24de ecu. It wont effect performance and other than the solenoid its all near your spare tire. I'm sure i'm forgetting a couple things. But anyway. My point is, if you are creative you could set up a sort of "black box" that you plug in in your trunk when you want to pass obd2 emissions. I have considered creating something like this for the same reason as you. I have a 96 and would really love to do an rb swap one day. I dont want to register my car to another county because its a pain in the ass and it is not as easy as it sounds.

id love to actually do this. i am doing to do some research and probably try to make this happen... gonna be a lot of trial and error since i'm not really familiar with the ins and outs of how all the sensors work. ill be lookin for all of the pinouts etc in my free time
