Anyone pulled a usdm kouki headlight housing apart and painted the chrome black? The chrome is pealing off inside my lights so I have to do something and I thought painting everything but the high beam reflector would look cool, especially cause I have a black kouki...

Yeah I saw his, pretty lame looking. I was thinking about not rattle can flat black bbq paint over chrome

but actually stripping chrome sanding down the ridges and high gloss painting them.

Yea I did mine 2 years ago. It still looks fine and I think a lot more aggressive. I painted the chrome so it wouldn't mess w/the light output. I hate when people night shade their headlights or put covers over them.
These pics were taken about a month after I did it. I also painted the turn signals. I simply pulled them apart, wet-sanded using 3 different grits, and then put about 3-4 coats of spray on them.

right on those two look awesome, what brand of paint and type did you use? specifically how did you go about opening up the housings and the corner pieces... oven method? any prep work needed?

okay i also need help with this, but the baking/disassembly seems pretty straightforward. The painting is what frightens me. I want to sand off the chrome as well, and paint em black. anyone have experience with painting? i dont.

Its really easy. Once you bake them and pull them apart you can see the housings are screwed in, so you just need a super small phillips head screwdriver and you can pull them right out. Scuff them up, and spray them with some spray paint. I taped off a little of the chrome area around the projector so I wouldn't completely kill the light output.

Its not rocket science, get something to degrease/clean the housing after you scuff it up if you're paranoid. Once you put the glass back over them you don't have to worry about them getting messed up. I used high temp satin black spray paint.

oh, you mean $200+ for something i can do for like less than 10 bucks? come on now, thats money that could be spend elsewhere, like on gas or something. :2f2f:

Update: Finally did it, worked great, used krylon fusion spray paint with 600 grit sand paper, also did turn signals. anyone know what if any thing can be sanded out of the glass to take pitting out?
