So i have a 240 with an SR. Its having problems charging the battery. Car dies out when i drive it. Now before i got it, a guy ran a cable on the back of the cluster to another cable, on the cluster. Then ran another cable from the lower engine harness to the fuse box, in the engine bay. On the cable ran from the lower harness, theres a light. Which is used to indicate when the alternator is actually working. Has anyone ever done anything like this before? If so, could you please help me out. Ive been trying to get this car back to its potential. Here are some pics.

also

does the speedo work at all?

If it does disconnect the wire going to the cluster and see if it changes anything?

If the speedo still works then I would just remove all that wiring, might have had some ghetto monitoring system before or somthing.

If your having issue with charging the battery check that 75 amp fuse and the connections on the side of that relay box as well as the Alt wiring . if everythings good I would take your alt and get it checked at autozone

did you relocate the battery to the back... when my sr got wired I took off the alternater to start wire by accident so check your alternator wire from starter to alternator

Also make sure that all the wires are hooked up to th alternator. There are 3 I believe. One that goes to the battery, a harness plug, and a ground.

Sounds to me like an Alternator issue. Either the alt. is bad, not connected right, or there is a short somewhere relative to the alt. Keep us posted on what you find. Trouble shooting is always better with many minds on it.

Good luck man.
