RB25 in a S13 with KA AC coompressor

I've seen multiple threads about keeping AC with an RB25 swap and they usually involve the skyline compressor and custom lines and such. I figured I'd offer up these pics to help someone make a cheaper decision that doesn't involve recharging the system. When removing the KA I left the lines hooked up and wired the compressor off to the side. I made these bracket adapters to use the KA bracket with a piece of 1" and 0.375" aluminum. I missed drilled one of the threaded holes but 3 bolts will be enough to hold the bracket on there. We'll see how much room we have between the frame rail and compressor tomorrow when I get the engine in.

So how are you gonna make the A/C lines reach since the RB positions the Compressor 6-8in forward?

You live in Minnesota, you don't have a clue what it is like to live in 90 to 100 degree days for two months a year.

As for the AC compressor placement 6 - 8 inches forward, that part may be slightly dicey but I'm going to cross that bridge tomorrow if it doesn't rain all day and I can get the engine in. My turbo is top mounted with a custom DP so I may have little wiggle room.

Worst case scenario here I save myself from trying to find the RB bracket and compressor since my engine didn't have one and I have to extend one maybe two lines. And of course get it recharged.

I'll tell ya now the KA Lines wont reach (maybe if you stretch the shit out of it but I dont think it will reach still), Im in the process of putting the A/C back in mine,
I'm using the modded RB LP line and either a custom HP line or the Modified KA one. well see monday

Thanks man, hopefully I got this thing licked.

I did some rearranging as the line comes out of the firewall and may have gained the extra length needed. The compressor can almost touch the condenser after messing with it, so it should be good. A hangover all day yesterday kept me from being productive maybe today after work I can get the engine in.

I may machine another set to get that 4th hole right, becuase I'm OCD and can't leave well enough alone. As far as making one for the SR I sold every bit of my SR stuff to altalti yesterday so I would need dimensions of that bracket or an SR block.

I left this a little open ended, everything fit with lots of bending on the AC lines but I wasn't happy with how well the lines looked so I'm getting lines extended and shortened. For all intensive purposes, it would have worked as is.

hahahahahahahaha, you should try living in South Carolina where it's 90-100 degrees more than half of the year, with 80%+ of humidity.

I haven't vanished? I've been making SR brackets now forever! All of my kits use the KA compressor and lines to keep all things kosher and working well!

PM me if you're interested in getting the AC working in your SR20. I'm actually on the newest version for all setups, that offer the most sway bar clearance ever.



FWIW: I have always wanted a set of RB brackets as well...this way I could help adapt the USA KA compressors to those brackets...we all know how the JDM stuff requires custom lines and the compressors often do not work.

I've got all of the SR AC stuff sorted out and have now for years. Props on making the RB stuff man! I wish I had more RB cars around me, just dont' see them so much.

Apologies for raising this thread from the dead... I just made a set of conversion brackets like you did, but my compressor hits the tension rod bracket. In order for it to fit right ill have to cut that bracket and there's no way the PS hardline will mount on the bracket. Did you see these same problems?

What about wiring? Isn't it pretty straigh forward on the s13?
Im installing the ac on the rb 13 Im working on right now, and seems pretty straight forward.
Now, on the s14, that's a whole different story since the ECU is part of the ac system, and when replaced with an rb ECU, that part is no longer there.
I found the electrical part to be the most difficult part when working on the ac on my rb25 s14. For the compressor I kept the rb one, lines where just welded together, no biggie. What I did with the ecu electrical part was to bypass it by bridging a few wires, but if im not mistaken, the compressor wouldn't cut out when the evaporator was cold enough, so I would have to turn it off manually before it would freeze.
I had my ac working before I threw all the upgrades on the rb, now I got a new harness and havent got around to bridging those wires, which I probably will have to do very soon 'cause things are starting to get serious hot here in TX...
