So i leave work for my lunch break head over to mcD's to get some grub, and on the way i notice im running real rich.. i can smell the fuel and my wideband is reading 11-12 with very little load. Getting some loud backfires while decelerating. Idle is terrible struggles to keep running idle bounces from 100-1100 and stalls outs completely if i dont tap the gas. i have been running fine for the last month or so with a steady idle. havnt made any changes, what could have gone? im thinking random vac/boost leak which i can test when im off work. also i know the CTS going bad can cause similar issues. any extra thoughts would be appreciated since im at work and would like to make it home in one piece.

Mods: Sr20det with t28, stock maf injectors/ecu. walbro pump. fmic and freddy intake.

Either the CTS or maybe an injector isn't functioning properly. Pull the ECU for codes.

It should still blink the codes in the gauge cluster check engine light.

negative cel in cluster never illuminates, i think i have to run a wire or relay or something to the cluster to give it a signal.

Few things to check.

Fpr could be no good. If your running a stock FPR (fuel pressure regulator) try and replace it. If its aftermarket, replace with a stock one.

O rings on injectors. Fuel could be leaking passed one of the injectors. Its usually only 1 injector it happens too.

Check your oil. Does your oil smell like fuel? I sure hope it doesn't. But if it does i bet it has something to do with your fuel pressure.

sounds like a vac leak....a coupler could be torn....take starting fluid and spray it around your couplers and see if the idle jumps up

all those above could be correct but also check your exhaust manifold. i was having a strong smell in my car too and when i would give it gas i'll have backfire and a crappy idle also. it just happens that i guess with pressure over time it loosened the 4 bolts and had a terrible exhaust leak. worth a shot

thanks for all the input i checked what i could while at work didnt see anything obvious. drove it home and now its back to normal. idle was fine and rich condition gone. this sucks cuz i hate intermittent engine problems.

Get a fuel pressure gauge. Has helped me out quite a bit in knowing if bad FPR, bad injector O-rings, etc.

just throwing this out there because I had the bad idle/stall problem as well. I bought some carb cleaner and took off the the idle air control valve and cleaned it out. RPM's at Idle stayed steady and strong after that. lol for a while I set my ecu to maintain idle at 1300rpm just so I wouldn't stall all the time.

edit: Forgot to mention earlier that there were also a few problems we smoothed out on my fuel maps.. if you have a ecu that you can look into that you might want to check it out.
