im having some serious electrical problems such as alternator not seeming to work after being replaced, fuses popping, and worse of all some harness that runs under my ashtray has MELTED THE INSULATION RIGHT OFF 3 WIRES. i will admit that i did put bigger fuses because ive always had fuse popping issues and it seemed to help
fuses popping are room lamp which also shuts off my radio, cig lighter, and clock
and
fogs, which also shuts off most of my dash lights as well
also my car started throwing the battery light so we tried the unplug the battery test and it turned off. so we replaced it and there seems to be no change
so i guess my main question is would any of these burnt wires/fuses have an effect on my alternator working?
i would also like to know what the hell that harness is called that is underneath the cig lighter and what its plugged into
and if a harness from a single cam chassis be compatible with a dual cam chassis since i can only seem to find SOHC at the junkyard
any speculation and ideas for my problems would be greatly appreciated and if it helps your welcome to knock a couple brews pack on me if your ever in rialto

You have probably effectively destroyed your car's electrical system by using bigger fuses, depending on where all they've been used. My suggestion is to buy a full chassis harness off a partout on this forum, bring the new harness and the car to a competent mechanic and have him fix your shit. I seriously doubt you will ever find all the function critical wiring/components you toasted. Then have the mechanic troubleshoot anything else that's been destroyed.

Were did you get power for your hid's? How did you connect them? Also hows the connections behind your radio? Something is grounding out. The harness your sig is connected to also goes to your seatbelt brain I do believe. Dont quote me on this since that has been out of my car since 2005, but thats what I remember it being.

Wow...Seriously? A full chassis harness just for burning up 3 wires is a bit over kill.
OP, you need to get yourself a DVOM, an FSM, and learn to use both. I don't think the Alternator issue is related to the rest of the stuff but I have seen weider things.

electrical issues are a bit of a b*tch to troubleshoot, which fuses are constantly popping "name/label"
well if your looking for the harness there a SOHC at the el monte pick a part. i remember seeing the harness still in the car.
all the items you mentioned seem to be connected to fuse 10-Room Lamp
Here a link to the FSM: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/240sx/1989-90/WIRING_2.pdf
items listed to this fuse are on page 5 i would check for any loose or any wires that are grounding. it kinda hard to provide you any more help unless you tell us what wires you have trailed so far or any pic.

for sure i can tell you that room lamp blows the fuck up. throw a fuse in it and pops immediately. got a chopped harness gunna crimp it on later. wasnt about to try and rewire the whole car. ill post up pics later.
