I just recently found out about a gas station near my house that sells higher octane fuel(110). I was considering advancing my timing for a minor horsepower gain. I know it might not be much but I always run 91 anyways so i figured why the hell not. So my question is how should I adjust/set my timing in advance so I can run 110 with its increased benifits........

,and can I do this without buying a chip/hand held tuner.:2f2f:

Its not ideal but I guess u can advance timing from your distributor.

Aight ive got it pretty much figured out. So i can advance the timing in my KA just by pulling the distrubuter forward???
How far do you think I should go to run 110??????

The truth of the matter, is that it's not worth while to even bother. The minor power you may gain will be there, but unless you're going to the drags, I wouldn't waste my time.

The way to adjust timing is via your distributor (dizzy). Get it into timing mode, put a light on the car, and turn the distributor the 4 or 5 degrees you want (from 15 to 19/20). YOU should be able to get away with 93 at the crnaked advance, so using 110 will probably be overkill and end up making the same power as stock.

I know with FWD sentras, we often had them set at 19* base with a 93 tune.

^So do you think it would be safe to say I could get away with running the timing at about 25* using 110.

How much is 110 around you? If I would to do that it would be cheaper to just get a real tune

^ I just checked its like $50 for about 5 gallons of VP racing fuel. Expensive I know ,but If I saved a little cheese I could have fun with it for a little while. So Im just curious does 25* on the timing sounds about right for running 110 octane.

you could, but I still would say it's not worth your time to even bother for the 5-10 hp you may gain. QUite expensive for the short time of using it.

^ Yes I do ,but at least I keep an open mind ,and am not some wanabe know it all D-dag. Not saying that you are but im 16. Anyways I got a full tank of 91 and i advanced the timing about *5 with my friends timing gun. I did notice a difference ,but as codyace mentioned it is fairly miniscuel.

^Ya well your an Asshole for talking shit to a 16 year old. I guarantee you that I know more than you did when you were 16. Besides I also bet your one of those fags that wouldnt be talking shit in person. Im just trying to blow up my shit and have fun doing it so I can go turbo anyways. NO reason to hate............

Must not know me to well, Im pretty sure your one of those 16 year old that thinks there the shit as well. I said your dumb just for the fact your 16, and you want to pur 110 octane in a 10 year old engine, no tune, and your saying advancing the timing will make it "fun". I dont really see the point in doing it, especially when there arent many 110 stations, and the fact that its like 8-15$ a gallon. Where as you can buy 93 octane for 3.60 a gallon. Your wasting money to fund your swap later on in the future like you stated above. So honestly IMO your dumb for wanting to pay 50$ for 5 gallons of gas just to blow it in a month.

I wasnt being a dick at all, just saying it just seems dumb to me and a waste of money. Especially since gas just goes up every day anyway. Just seems more practical to me to just run your 91, and save that 30-60$ every fill up for something better.

True, true.. Im prob. not really going to run 110 anyways. I mainly wanted it advanced it for running my 91, but lets say I did get an actual tune were not looking at more than 15hp right? and the most they could probably do for an N/A KA is probably lean it out a little & advance the timing right????

Pretty much, it isnt worth it honestly. Isnt even worth paying for the tune.

'jdm240sx122", just take some stuff with a grain of salt here. Often times people are more focused on flaming than actually helping. Props to you for at least asking a decent question and then taking the advice and thinking it through. Sure it may be a small thing, but half of the younger/new people log on here and can barely sort out the search feature, let alone post something somewhat technical.
