View Full Version : Bad gas mileage!?

Alright, it seems like my car has been eating up a lot of gas after installing the t28 and fmic!! I been getting around 20mpg doing mostly freeway driving with normal driving (running 7lbs). Before installing the turbo and fmic I was getting around 27-30ish. I was wondering what kind of gas mileage is everyone getting with their sr. Also is there anything I can do to improve this nonsense, since gas here in California is around 4.10... :(

Any problems with weird idle or anything? Or everything seems perfectly fine and your just getting bad gas mileage?

lol i got the same problem. seems like my car eats up alot of gas. thats why i dont drive it daily. or it could be my gas tank is fuked up or my cap isnt holding pressure the way it should. is there any way to test gas caps?

Have you checked your cts? Coolant temp sensor. Also other things to check are: Clogged IACV, bad O2 sensor and plugs.

yea man i was running my stock ka perfect. and swapped it with an sr with fmic and t28rs and i feel like im getting 13 mpg mostly city and some highway but still. also i have a bouncy idle sometimes nothing drastic though...

how can I check if my IACV is clogged or i have a bad 02 sensor? my coolant temp seems pretty good. I get readings out of it from my stock cluster and the temp that is leaving the engine read about 180-200..

Unscrew your IACV and check to see how much carbon buildup you actually have on it and for O2 senor are you reading any codes?

my stock sr gets 21-22mpg constantly stock with fmi, bov, no cat, and full 3inch from turbo arm all the way back. so yours is not too bad.

I just cleaned the iacv and my maf. the engine seems smoother but not sure if it'll get me better gas mileage. I dont think the O2 sensor is throwing any code, but then again how would I check to see if it is throwing any code?

Yea same I'm not getting any codes on mine.
My afrs read good. Seems like I do eat up
alot of gas though. I know I run richer because I'm running atmosheric bov. My gauge def goes down fast. Ehh I don't really care since it's nt daily driven. But it's def f*Ken quick lol

Thats what i'm talking about! Lets get some more feedback people!! With my car eating gas like this and gas price. I'm going to sell the damn thing soon if I can't figure out whats wrong!

It's a turbo car, what did you expect? Better mileage?

not trying to bash on ya but technically turbo cars can get better mileage depending on how you drive. id deff check the coolant temp sensor. not tps cause usually that would cause a misfire or very ruff idle or a dead spot when rolling on the throttle. could also be a o2 sensor giving the wrong reading and could put it in a type of safe mode so it dumps fuel and u dont have detonation.

i very well would be wrong about the mileage but thats just my personal experience

does anyone have a list of temp vs. resistance the coolant temp sensor has to be? I want to see if my sensor is bad. Also to check the cel on the ecu do I turn my ignition to on and turn the screw on the ecu clockwise and wait 2 second then turn it counter clock wise?

Scott def knows what he is talking about whether its from ka-t to sr.

if you have a NTC (negative temp. co-efficient) ECT sensor: when your temperature increases, resistance decreases in the result of increase in voltage
if you have a PTC (positive temp. co-efficient) ECT sensor: when your temperature increases, resistance increases in the result of decrease in voltage.
