are you sohc? If so you may of eaten away at your timing chain cover. Its a common problem with Sohcs because its something about a chain cover is related to a port where the coolant goes through.

any noticeable change in the exhaust emissions? ie white smoke etc? can be an indication to whats going on

no i have no white smoke or blue smoke or any smoke whats soever coming from my exhaust but i do have emmisions as normal the thing is theres no coolant in my rad so it goes to the oil crank case and it mixed with my oil so my car overheats cuz i have no coolant almost like running with no radiator

I think I have the same thing, my rad was really low last time I checked and when I emptied my catch can it was a milky type oil

I would be doing a Leak Down Test & a Compression Test, Both of these can be performed by a general mechanic as there not engine specific.. With this you can easily determine if its indeed the head gasket, and even if its not you will get an indication on how good your engine is going anyway :)

Sounds like a bad gasket or cracked block :(

If you had timing chain noise you probably have had your chain eat through to your coolant/water jacket on your timing cover....this is common for single and dual cam motors if the guides are not replaced after they break. My guides broke on my single cam DD and I waited awhile to change them and had definite scoring where the timing chain was rubbing against the cover. GL bro!
