Ok soI swapped my sr in about a month ago and the starter did its job, but after a while of always working on the car with cranking and no starting the starter started to make a little bit of a grinding noise almost like it was missing a tooth and skipping. It go to the point to where the starter would spin for a little and slowly start to what it sounded like scrape the flywheel then finally grab. So then I replace the starter with a spare I had to find that this one did some sort of skip too. So i thought flywheel, I look and nothing looks wrong and it only did the skip sometimes. Then one day I went to start it and all it did was spin, I checked both starters and they both pop out and spin. So im stumped. The only other thing im thinking is that the smaller wire on the starter that goes to the ignition switch was bypassed by a push button switch that was connected to a 12v source and the starter. Any ideas before I buy another starter and change the flywheel?

mine does this too for the past year so I wouldn't worry about it.

The squeak is from what I think is the starter getting wet. But the fact that I went through two starters ina month makes me thing there is a wiring problem or something

Mines like a grind sound when it just spins and doesn't catch like you described. But that only happens sometimes to me.

Exactly, I dont see anything wrong with my flywheel either. One of my starters will spin then finally grab after it scrapes harder and harder until it grabs but the other on just spins and spins. I checked both of them and they both pop out and spin so im stuck.

the smaller wire on the starter that goes to the ignition switch was bypassed by a push button switch that was connected to a 12v source and the starter.
Check the wiring on this thing. It sounds like it's almost not getting enough power to "pop" the starter gear out completely. So instead of it engaging, the starter just spins and slowly moves out. That's when you hear that horid grinding noise, and eventually the gear moves out all the way and does its job of turning the flywheel.
Try taking the starter off and cranking the car with it hooked up. Look to see what the little gear inside does. If it looks effed up, then I'd try rewiring that switch alittle better.

Im thinking its the swith too, the guy I got the car from had his ka wired from a preschooler, the starter wire is soldered to the ignition switch itself and im thinking its way too much current for that switch to handle, come to think of it, that is most likely the problem because sometimes the 30 amp ign fuse pops
