This borders on belonging in Off topic but Ill try my luck here.
There seems to be a market for used aftermarket turbos for the 240 community.
What about used factory turbos?
My old car was a 1988 Isuzu I-Mark Turbo (I miss that little bastard!)
and when I gave it up to the wreckers I removed the whole turbocharger assembly (among other things) according to the service manual and sold it to a friend of mine for $20. The turbo still spooled up to nearly 9 pounds of boost despite the 200 plus kms on the car.
It worked fine, eagerly putting your head back after a split second of thinking when you mashed the gas. The turbo increased that engines horsepower almost 100% when it engaged. (Non turbo Imark was 75 Horsepower and the JT Turbo like mine was 145)
The friend was getting ready to install it on his 1991 Honda Civic and although I didnt think this would work, in theory there isnt a lot of complication to the turbo itself, basically some mickey mouse plumbing and brackets and making the engine aware of and using the boost. He almost had things ready to drop it in and his car was wrecked.
Question is should I buy it back from him for the $20 and try and sell it? Someone like him could use it on their car I Imagine, he is very knowledgeable with engines and even welded up his own exhaust and intake system for it. Then its a matter of "teeing" off the appropriate coolant and oil lines, etc.
Does anyone think I could sell it for anything more than the $20 he paid for it?
