so my sr's blowing blue smoke, i thought it might be the pcv system sucking oil into the intake cause i saw a little oil in there. so after i just changed my oil i cleaned out my catch can, intake and ic piping. went for a drive, came home and took it all out again to check. no oil in the can or intake piping but a good amount in the hotpipe and bov. turbo seals? i did search but just want a definitive answer.
EDITTTT I got the turbo back on after having it rebuilt, no more bluish smoke from burning oil or the smell. but now its just completely white, guessing its coolant but from where. hg? a little coolant was leaking from the coolant fitting from the block but i tightened it up and it stoped but coolant still drips underneath the car but i can find the leak. the temp gauge also keeps fluctuating up and down, never did that before since i took the turbo off to get rebuild, and it never burned coolant

Look in the exhaust if you feel like taking that off, my downpipe had a bunch of oil in it when I had a blown seal

is it possible to have just the compressor side seal broke? cause i had the turbo elbow off about a week ago but i dont remember that much oil. could it be the hg?

having the same problem. turbo is being rebuild now. same symptoms.
first thought it might be the valve seals or bad rings. so i was gonna do a compression check. havent got around to it yet because there was some oil in the Downpipe. took turbo off, found none in the manifold. immediately new it was the turbo.

how much is the rebuild costing you? is it from garrett?

Generally not burning oil. The coolant passages on the SR are closest to the combustion chamber, not the oil passages. Otherwise, you would be getting intermix.
how are compression numbers? Also, is the black smoke constant?

I should re-iterate and ask if the *blue* smoke is constant.
knowing if the vehicle is constantly spewing smoke, on start up only, or under certain load conditions helps us with the diagnosis over the internet, since we can't really run the tests for you

doesn't matter if there isn't shaft play if the seals are fucked.
