What's up fellow Zilvian's. So the time has come to do something about my KA24E for my 1990 240sx. Due to the fact that I do not really have the funds for a complete SR swap I ask you for help. The engine has 177,XXX miles on it. It already has rattling coming from inside the valve cover and well all the gaskets could be replaced. Now I have noticed that the engine does not burn any oil and it start fine and runs okay. With this being said I was personally thinking of doing a complete rebuild but I dont really know what brand I could rely on. I was also told that since the engine does not burn oil a complete head work with seals and gaskets would do just about it. Im just trying to find the right path before my timing chain snaps and it gets worse. Any help is appriciated, thanks.

Did you look up timing chain rattle? It is fairly common, and usually won't cause any problems, did you do anything else to determine if a rebuild would even be necessary? Compression test? If it's not burning oil you're just kinda throwing the money away on a rebuild if like you say you plan on going SR anyways. Like S14DB linked you to a timing chain kit which would more than likely fix your problem, alot of people get rid of their upper timing chain guide i think it is but I dont remember if its on single cams as well.

Oh and btw its $.02 not $00.2 that would be twenty cents ;)

Take valve cover off and look down and you will prbly find your chain tensioner is in pieces like mine was. Then the chain proceeded to swing out and slice the water jacket in the front cover which then dumped coolant into my oil which explains all the loose bearings ohwell. I went felpro gasket set and no problems for three years

S14DB- This I will be looking into

raz0rblade- Have not done the compression test I will look into that, also the soch has the tensioner on the side not like the DE in wich cases people remove the top, I was hoping I could do that. Oh and IOU 0.18 cents.

240sxrb25- 3 years sounds good to me

thanks....:bigok:
