Im pretty sure this is throw out bearing needing replace from lack of lube right when you say is makes the noise when the clutch is not pressed in is a pretty sure bet thats the issue,When they go bad it makes a sound simular to grinding metal kinda friction sound almost as if the gears are lacking all lubrication and when the clutch pedal is pushed in the sound goes away,Let me bet it sounds way worse on cold starts doesnt it,If so this will be the corpurate,In some cases the bearing will cause vibration like a jackhammer in the bell housing but I never had that issue yet.
Google "Symptoms of bad throwout bearing"
and see if it fits the bill.

im currently having some noise coming from the bottom of my car and also thought it was the tranny. however it does not show any kind of defect. so i looked around and found a exhaust leak and that my exhaust is rattling.......maybe u should check that too.
it rattles when im in 3rd usually and only on deceleration. but when im taking off, it doesn't rattle.......

Ok. I guarantee you that, that noise is a result of the unsprung 6 puck clutch. The reason for the springs in a clutch are EXCLUSIVELY to dampen vibrations. The noises that you are hearing are from you transmission shafts and your engine internals. With internal combustion engines, the flywheel and related clutch components are all harmonic dampeners. When you remove the sprung clutch disk you make a big change in the dampening ability. That vibration is transfered into the input shaft of the transmission and starts rattling the shafts and gears in the transmission. The shafts in the transmission and the gear lashes have much looser tollerances than the engine internals. That is why you hear so much more noise. A lot of people get an increase in noise just from going with a lighter flywheel. The unsprung clutch is a bad idea in my opinion. They do not make engagement any different. The only concern with the sprung ones is that with massive power you might break the springs. We are talking massive though. Not likely you will experience that. Thats what i have to offer you. Dont do nonsense with your throw out bearing. The reason you hear it when you press in the clutch is that the transmission shafts are no longer spinning. Throw out bearings fail the exact opposite of what the previous poster posted. They make noise when you push the clutch pedal. When they wear out and the grease isnt effective they make metal to metal contact and wear. That wear is exagerated when you put the pressure of the pressure plate on the bearing. NOT when it is sitting on the input shaft, not spinning, not contacting anything. GAAH internets are so fail for missinformation.
