Im new to Zilvia.net, pickin up my 89 Fastback tomorrow. I have had another S13 fastback but stupidly sold it. Plans for this are extremly basic. SR20, 180sx tails and side windows. First the Sr20. build up the bottom end, and enternals. bolt on blah blah blah. im hoping to get pretty decent HP numbers outta this one. The great guys at Works Yamaguchi here in Indy are gonna be doin the swap and work.

Hey Jordan
Sounds like you have some big plans for the car.
Feel free to use the search function while you're here, be sure to post some pictures of the car in the picture thread :)
And, BTW, are you building the car for big HP numbers ?

Not great big, but enough to have fun with. When i first decided to do the swap it was between a RB25DET, or the Sr20. I also thought of the S15 Sr20, but im just goin basic and stickin to the redtop sr. Enough power to get the ass around and pour smoke. and the ocassional drag strip. Im looking to around 400+hp. in time it will come.
Ill get pics up of it. But its not the prettiest beater ever.

Based purely off others experiences shared on this forum and others, you don't need to build the bottomend for 400hp...

240Dave you beat me to it. Man the stock bottom end it good up to way over 400HP. Like 460 or somewhere around there.

My friends that are doin the swap tuned Silvias, skylines Etc. in Japan. so i feel good about takin my car to there shop and they do good work.

and a buck shot of nitrous to spool it. I think the T88 is best off for higly modded or TT setups. IMHO, but after reading Maximum Boost, due next week, Ill probably look back and this and think I am an asshole...

ok well after seeing about 30 S13's with Sr20's, ive decided to go with the RB20DET. front clip is 2400 shipped. I dont know of anyone around here with an RB20. If i dont end up goin RB20 then im goin 25. Also have a buddy doin a RB25 in his Zenki S14

Their are a few issues with the crossmember (you need to retro fit it) and the bell housing hitting the top of the firewall. You will need to get that engine low in the engine bay for those reasons...and to clear the hood without having to gut the reinforcement attached to the hood. You only need about an inch. I forget which crossmember solves this.....it is definitly in the search.
Welcome to zilvia. Post some pics and impressions of your new ride!~

Dude RB20s are the suck. If you go RB go RB25. But I hate people swapping engines just to "be different". Its like.... ummm you wanna be different, put an E36 or E46 BMW M3 engine in there... If we were fortunate enough to get SR20DETs from the factory like the other side of the pond, would we swap to KAs just to BE DIFFERENT? Who cares how many people have SR's. 30 around you? Jeez. What is it? like 300,000 at least in Japan?

See heres the thing, i wasnt set on an SR20. Im not doing **** to be different, so dont get your panties in a twist. When the swap comes around, and i feel like switching to an RB25 then i will do so. I do understand where you thought i was swapping motors to be different.

If you do go RB20 (expect solid 14's in the Q) then the RB25 will become a cakewalk. The strait 6 is just a smoother more refined engine IMO. I saw an RB25DET in a S-14 and you could sit a glass of water on that engine at idle and not a ripple in the glass. It is that smooth. You could not feel it running at idle. On the otherhand, the RB20 develops simalar power stock as the SR20...just a shade more refinement in the smoothness. The RB26DETT is very doable as well. Once you go to it, some strange piping and mods are of order to clear the steering collum for the twin turbos. Eitherway, the intercooler install and piping it on all of the engines is the part that is considered least fun, next to the wiring.
Having ridden in many 240SX's with various engines, a really nice balance is the RB25DET. You get the power, you don't have to go tranny shopping (as you will need to with the 26) and it really is best of all worlds. For weight, taking the ac compressor off and moving the battery to the rear will restore the factory balance. only about a 60LB difference overall.
