i searched the forum for long time but couldn't find a specific thread on how the custom exhausts are made
.
I'm wondering what my choices are for getting 3" custom exhaust like mandrel bends, cutting other 3" piping to make my custom exhaust or etc.
In order for me to spend more money on quality canister, there must be less spending on getting custom piping done.
Most people say $100~150 will be enough to get it done (coming from who got theirs done) But i was quoted $300 from a fab shop. (two mandrel bends and hangers) So since mandrel bend is too expensive for me, i have to find other way. Suggestions?
When people say they got their custom piping from cutting other exhaust pipes, what exactly does that mean?
cutting old exhaust pipes little piece by piece to make bends? Login | Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=159324697451397&set=a.159136827470184.39350.100001216030819&theater)
Do i just grab any shape of 3" piping and bring it to the shop?
Is there a big difference in price and weight between steel and alumium, and between aluminum and titanium?
thanks in advance

Id say you check out jegs or summit racing they carry piping for cheap and they also carry mandrel bent pieces. Id say thats the best way to do a straight pipe/ custom exhaust by yourself. It will be the cheapest and all you have to worry about now would be welding it up but thats a whole different topic relating to welder types and your personal welding skills.

actually i'm not doing this myself. Getting someone to get it done.
Would it be better to get mandrel bends pieces from summit racing, or cut 3" pipes in pieces to make bends?
If i wanted to get bends online, i'd need to measure the angle of bend.....lazy

LOL!!! Huuuuggggeee Difference in Aluminum to titanium, not only in properties but in price.
I made my exhaust out of 304SS for 90$ at 3" diameter. But I have my own TIG welder so if you can find someone who has a TIG you can go this route or if you do steel it's even cheaper and you can do it with MIG.

^^actually i have a 350z.
my budget is under $250 cause i can get megan drift spec single exhaust NEW around $300.
i know megan canister costs $100, then i have$150 to spend on custom pipe.
HKS canister used cost $150~200, then i have $100~50 to spend on pipe lol

hehe I won't do it for 90$ that's for sure because that was just material cost. Making an exhaust is time consuming. That link however, that someone just posted seems pretty decent.

i bought my exhaust from Gazzella and cant fault it, i say go for that.
there is a place in burnley that does Custom Exhausts (http://www.glenroyexhaust.com.au/)
but when i tried them a few years ago they said they couldnt do a direct copy for the GTV as the pattern and box layout are too complicated. now i didnt enquire about the possibility of them being able to make a straight through system, maybe they could do that i dont know.

You can buy full exhaust systems from ebay for a little over $100. They are cheap no-name brand stuff and fitment will probably be off. But if you're on a budget you can get one of those cheap ones and custom that one to your liking.
