I posted this in "Chat" by accident...I have a Redtop SR20DET in a 95 240SX (S14). I have finally wired everything up and got everything working (I think), but it will not crank up...I have tried everything. Here are the details: It gets gas (drained and fresh 93 octane added today), all 4 plugs fire when pulled out and grounded on the block, fuel pump runs, lines are ran correctly, it is in time according to an online guide that details the FSM method. The cams are correctly positioned (front lobes out and notches lined up with the different chain links) when cyl 1 is at TDC, the CAS was placed correctly with the dimples lined up right and the CAS about centered. I have tried moving it while cranking. It coughs once every 4-5 seconds when cranking and smells really strong like gas. When I take the plugs out, they are soaking wet. I can't figure it out!

double check that your ECU is working properly also. I had the same problem. I went through everything several times then i threw in a different ECU and presto.

Im having the same problem right now as well it cranks over but wont start, but the funny think is after when crankin i here a tap click noise near the CAS right up top of the valve cover sounds like a gear or sometime so now im done to either the cas or the ignitor chip :D

Will it start with the MAF unplugged?

I have similar issue bud! We need to bump this more often to get some help from others that encounter this kind of problem before.
We installed a redtop to a 1997 kouki this week, we got our wire harness from wiring specialties s13 t0 s14 set-up and we keep sr tranny harness. Battery is fully charged but when we try to crank it there',s no response, we can hear all the relay clicks, fuel pump, computer red light is on. Somehow there's no signal from the ignition to the starter :(
PLEASE HELP, I already tried searching here about the issue but no luck so far.

all nissans have a starter relays for start and neutral safety
if car cranks but u smell fuel and no start...ur engines getting flooded
pull fuel rail and cran over a car board to see spray pattern
if ok check sensors or ie dtc codes if ok
ecu maybe the problem..
also maf wireing..o2 sensor wireing who did it and why

I didn't subscribe, so sorry for not keeping up with this thread! It still won't start. I checked the timing with a timing gun...its right on 15* BTDC (second notch from right) and the ECU says code "55" so that doesn't help. New plugs (gapped) and still wont fire up! (The O2 is a 4 wire one...so I just left it unplugged for now because it should still start) Also, the knock sensor is not wired.

could be that you need a tune. ive heard of people with similar symptoms and generally that was what it came down to.
if you retard the timing it may run but tune would be better

try retard the timing and unplug the maf sensor see what happens

This was my issue, fuel and spark but wouldn't start, my CAS was bad, and my ecu was burned. Swap those out with a buddy and give it a try.

Same problem here, wiring all done by wiring specialties, cranks, spark, fuel, no start, adjusting the CAS doesn't effect it at all. Very frustrating any help is much appreciated. And how much does an ecu go for?

50-200$ and a CAS varies from 80 on here to 500 new

How do you test if they're bad?

Could it be the wrong spark plugs?

Mine started!! I have no idea how this is possible unless the retard that tried to wire this messed it up, but the factory coil harness on coil #1 was actually red/white which is the signal for #4! put the long #1 plug where the short #4 should go and moved the others up and it runs perfect! The dude before me must have extended/reconnected and got them wrong...

are you sure its "cranking" or are you just saying it to explain that ur turning the key if its cranking check your start hit it or something, if you hear no cranking or its not turning over check your terminals they may be loose dbl check man
