Okay, so i installed an ASP pulley that I bought from Enjuku a little while back about 2 or 3 weeks ago. And I have to say that the installation process was a bitch. The power gains I got from it were fairly noticeable. For the first few days everything was great, no problems. Now, on the other hand, the car is starting to bog down to about 300-500 RPM's when I come to a stop. It does come up after about 5 seconds but goes up and down from 800-500, which i think is not too out of the ordinary considering that the harmonic balancer is not there anymore. The car has stalled a couple of times from this and it's starting to really bug me. On top of this I have a small oil leak now, even though i replaced the front main seal. when I put it in it didn't go in all the way so I just torqued the new pulley on so it would pressure fit in. Was this wrong? I also run a 600 watt amp for my stereo which I thought could cause some problems. Can anybody help me out on this one cause I'm stumped. Oh, and thanx for taking the time to read this post too.;)

As for putting in the front oil seal, you might want to put in a new one and make sure that sucker goes in all the way. I don't remember exactly but I think it's supposed to be put in a specific way so that could also be a problem. That small oil leak could have possibly gotten on your alternator so you might want to check it out and spray it with alternator cleaner if necessary. My car was doing the same thing (bogging down at stops) but I got a new alternator and it doesn't go into the low RPM's as it used to. I still see the RPM needle bounce at stops but now it bounces once from 700-800ish.

1) Unplug your TPS, adjust the idle to 650-700, plug TPS in, and see if the problem goes away.

2) There is NOT a harmonic balancer on the KA from the factory. The OEM pulley has a rubber donut in it that helps prevent shock to the crank and A/C compressor when you turn the A/C on, but there is no harmonic balancer. And if there were, removing it would cause no issues at idle...only at high RPM. Not trying to be an ass, just trying to educate...

3) If it wasn't pressed all the way in, and you put the pulley on, chances are the back of the pulley is rubbing on the seal and will wear through it. You need to pull it and put a new seal in ALL THE WAY to be safe - Sudden loss of lots of oil would be bad to your engine.

It is a harmonic damper (not balancer).

There are several reasons why Manufacturers use these.

One reason is to help dilute torsional harmonics in the crank that are caused by Translational vibrations (combustion forces, and reciprocating masses). These torsional harmonics result in torsional bending modes of the crank (twisting) that will increase stress directly on the crank itself. The pulley is often tuned to help dampen the largest of these modes.

Another reason is, of course as you already stated, to reduce the torsional vibrations passed onto the accessory drive, thus reducing belt noise as well as preventing damage to the accessories themselves.

They also serve to reduce engine roughness, and help adhere to more strict NVH standards.

Which of these reasons Nissan intended is unknown to me, and I seriously wouldn't worry about our cranks. They are quite beefy, and have been proven to be very strong.

Thanks for all the help guys, I just bought a new oil seal and I'm gonna put it in as soon as i can. As for Orion, I took no offence to that at all, I'm here to learn, thats why I ask questions. I also thought that since I'm running an amp for my stereo that it could be causing the car to bog down (loss of power). I'm really not sure on this one.

Nope, I doubt its the stereo. Just raise your idle a bit.. the pulley reduces the amount of energy being produced from the alternator, so I am sure that could have something to do with it. When I ran my UR pulley, I had the car idle around 1000 rpms.

A tip on that oil seal. Stick it in the freezer for a couple hours before you put it in. It will make it just that much stiffer making it easier to put in. If you have to use a SOFT face mallet of some sort....I really wouldn't do it....I don't think hammers should be used for anything on a motor(yes yes i know there are some times you are supposed to use them).
