Hello, I have a `93 240sx SE coupe. So I have an open differential, and wanted a LSD for my car. So I bought the VLSD internals from a `90 N/A 300zx. I just wanted to know if its possible to just swap out the internals from my open differential and switch them for the VLSD ones? Or will I still need different outputs? Thanks.

N/A 300ZX VLSD is an R200, so the correct output shafts are the same ones required for an S13/14 VLSD.
Do you have the 300ZX pumpkin and output shafts? If so, you have options, but if not, you have to buy the correct shafts from the dealer.

What are these options? I purchased a NAZ diff and I have the whole pumpkin and the output shafts from the Z. I was under the assumption I would have to buy output shafts for a VLSD from a S13/S14. Fill me in please.

there are a lot of posts on this, many of them recent, i even posted a mini writeup.
1)Use pre95 j30 axles
2)purchase vlsd output shafts
3)use jdm 5bolt axles
4)i was told that the open shafts could be machined, i can see that workin for the short side, but really dont see it workin on the other side upon personal inspection
5)there was a post bout a guy makin a hybrid 300zx/240sx axle
i did option one, its very easy and j30 axles can be picked up for pretty cheap if u look around.

OK I just want to clarify option one sinc eI had planned on getting rebuilt axles from autozone when I did this. these axles are the the correct length for the S13, not longer like the Z32 ones? they also have the same bolt pattern as the Z32's? I just want to make sure because I think Id like to go that route. Thanks for you help.

yeah, i used 94 infiniti j30 axles, they are the same length as the s13 axles, and they have the 5 bolt flange that u need to bolt up to the z32 na ouput shafts, which are the 5 bolt.

just a few pics from mine, second one got a lil blurry
just remembered too, ur gonna need some bolts for the axles, the bolts used with ur stock differential and the 6 bolt flanges are smaller, i used all the bolts from the z32 i got the diff from.

Thanks a bunch, sorry to make you beat this subject to death, Im reading the FAQ's now. The pics help and thanks for the bolt tip, I would have never thought of it, and would have assumed my 6 bolt would work.
One last Q, since I have a Z VLSD do I have to worry about the 1/2" drive shaft problem that the J30 VLSD has a problem with or am I ok?

yeah, since the abs sensors for the z diff are on the sides, there is no extra length on the nose of the diff.

and just incase u didnt know, if u have a s13, u need to swap the rear cover to either a s13 open diff cover or a s13 vlsd rear cover.

Hey, very helpful man! THANKYOU! I mean... yes, i searched, but text only can get scrambled in the brain... output shafts, output flanges, j30 5bolt?, 180sx 5/6 bolt?, unequal length L/R axles, etc...
Thanks for putting visuals to the description! Yes, Im pretty much a newb, and my cars sitting in front of my house while im away from home at school, so ppl who say to go look, I cant! BUT THIS REALLY HELPS :D

Since we're in the topic, when removing a differential from it's housing, would it require a special tool? Then there's also another tool used to align it back into the housing afterwards?
