Power steering problem?

I just bought a 1989 240sx hatch and i think it has some power steering problems. Is the power steering supposed to feel like your pulling 50lbs? How can i trouble shoot it?

is there fluid in the power steering reservoir?

Yeah just had this problem last week, check for fluid, refill and look for leaks, hope its a rubber line. If not it might be your p/s pump going bad or rack and pinion going bad...

didnt know it was so little things could cause the problem. there was a little amount of fluid in there thats what threw me off. i filled it up and now it turns with one finger.

but why would the fluid disappear? leak or does the fluid burn off?

Most likely there's a leak somewhere...mine leaks a bit from the rubber hose.
