View Full Version : Running rich and rough idle on KA24

I have a 1995 240 with a ka24de. I bought the car with a rough idling and running rich problem it would bounce between 400 and 900 rpms. Then the engine blew so I bought another ka and put it in with the same ecu and tranny and it still has the rough idle and runs rich. The ecu is throwing codes for a knock sensor tps sensor and crank angle sensor. I replaced all the sensors and cleared the codes and it threw the same codes again after 30 minutes of driving. I took it to a mechanic and he said my ecu is bad he even checked the timing to see if that was an issue for the rich running and idle. And now while I drive the car dies for a few seconds and then comes right back on like the engine is pausing, I replaced all the plugs and wires it helped for a day then started again. Anyone seen anything like this?

My friend has the same problem. Put a new engine in with same ecu cr still had the same problems. Some days it would run good then out of nowhere started running exactly the sane, like crap. That lead me to believe it was either the ecu or the chassis/engine harness. But he never bothered to fix it.

I thought it could be the harness as well, I might just change both out and see what it does.

Ive seen this happen before & you might wana cosider checking or replacing your aicv valve.

What is that exactly, I searched and couldn't find anything?

Its your air idler controll valve. As far as I know it controls the air intake of the engine durring idle.

So from what I read it's in the middle of the intake ports? Pull it out and clean it then adjust to oem setting?

Sounds good to me...
It wouldnt hurt to try, plus it might solve your problem.

After you play with the aicv, if its still giving you shit you might wana cosider investing in a new tps sensor if that is one of the codes its throwing, but dont forget to check your maf sensor.

I already replaced all the sensors it threw codes for. I'm going to find some info on taking this thing out and cleaning it and see how that works, then I'll let you know. I appreciate the help.

I cleaned out the aicv and it helped a lot with the idle but when I'm driving it has a nasty cutout around 4000-5000 rpms. It's not all the time but sometimes and it happens in any gear any suggestions? I'm thinking a ground.

To me it kinda seems like a bad maf sensor.
