View Full Version : Camber plates

After a lot of thought and debate I've decided to go with the venerable AGX/Sportline combo for my S13, at least at first. This will raise my budget for other items (like a new engine) and allow me to start to learn to drive the car without worrying too much about adjustability. Later on I'll probably switch to a full coilover setup but in the meantime I have some questions:
What camber plates will work with AGX struts, and does anyone make upper pillowball mounts for the rear that will work with stock-type struts? I'm especially interested in the Tein upper mounts because of the cost, but have no idea whether they'll work with regular struts.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Tein front adjustable pillow uppers won't work because the the spring perch on the mount is not large enough for the Eiback spring. They were designed for the smaller coil springs used in true coilover setup's which utilizes a smaller (in diameter) spring. The Eibachs are the same size as stock and are too large for the perch.
This information came from Tein directly...I don't have any personal experience, just what they have informed me. Does make sense.
Not sure if Cusco or HKS are the same way.
I contacted HKS USA and they said something along the same lines and that they wouldn't work w/ the USDM models, only the JDM because of 'subtle' front chasis differences. Never could find out what differences they are talking about.
I can tell you this though, I know a guy running Tein coilovers w/ the HKS adj. upper mounts, so I'm assuming the spring perch is the same size as the Tein coilover spring, which would lead me to believe that it's the same as the Tein upper mounts, therefore would not work.

OK, just discovered that Cusco makes camber plates for stock-style front struts. That's covered, if I decide I need them.
So, now the pertinent question is whether anyone makes upper pillowball mounts for the rear, for use with stock-style struts.
Anyone?

how did you find out?
Does Cusco make two different styles?
Thanks

If by two different styles you mean one for their coilovers and one for stock struts, it appears to be so. Unless the information I found is wrong.
I'm still checking it out. I'll post back when I know for sure.
In the meantime, REAR MOUNTS! Anyone?

Tanabe, HKS and Cusco all have rears. Don't take my word for it, but that I know of, Tiens are the only ones that are coilover only.
I used my stock spring cap with my Cusco/AGX setup. I didn't get rear mount because it's not a McStrut and there really isn't that much going on back there.

didn't a previous thread somwhere decide that AGX's aren't good for sportlines cuz of the extrememly low drop? I seem to recall something about them really needing short stroke dampers... however on the other hand, I do know that there are people rolling around on sportlines... no idea how many have blown their shocks/struts.

This just in: Cusco also makes upper rear mounts. They're available on projectsilvia.com - or I guess it's now projectnissan.com
I'll have to decide if I'm willing to spend the money though, they're pretty expensive. Putting them on all four corners with a strut spring combo would EASILY put the money in full coilover territory...
