Hey guys,
I unhooked my AC a while back when I toke my motor out (stupid move) and never had the chance to readd freon and oil to it. When I turn the AC on now, the plate on the front of the AC (is this the clutch?) doesn't spin at all. Does this mean that the compressor is bad and dead?
I've read multiple threads from searching on google that I could jump the compressor and if the plate on the front of the AC (clutch?) spin then it is still a good compressor?
I want a definite answer before I go out and find another AC compressor.
Let me know guys. Thanks!

Did you check all the wiring? Make sure its getting power. Ruke out everything before you buy a new part. You can also check to see if a parts good or not, there is no reason to replace good parts.

If you haven't added freon, then it won't engage. If it still doesn't engage after adding freon, then you might have a bad compressor. But, do what jacobs13 said before you buy a new one.

if the system is empty you will need to evacuate all the air first with a vacume pump, the you can "jump" the pressure switch to engage the clutch on the compressor to do your fill of oil/freon. you can free flow it. but i wouldnt reccomend that, as its usually hit or miss.

Yeah, if there is no freon in the system the condensor wont have anything to...condense. lol. Alternatively the bearing could go out? Dont know if that affects your situation but ive changed just the bearing because it was squealing. mightve locked up? not sure. Sorry to hear it man.

if the system is empty you will need to evacuate all the air first with a vacuum pump, then you can "jump" the pressure switch with a wire or paper clip to engage the clutch on the compressor while the engine is running to determine if the pump is good or bad before you fill it with oil/freon. you can free flow it. but i wouldn't recommend that, as its usually hit or miss.
fixed
blahblahblahblah

So this probably isn't a DIY type of job? I don't have access to a vacuum pump nor do I know how to use it.
I really just want to know if there's a way I can test my compressor to know if it is still good or not. I don't want to add oil & freon to my compressor and find out it is dead. My AC was running fine before I went KA-T and leaked out all the freon so, blah.
I know where I can get a compressor for $50 but if I can test and verify MY compressor is good then I could save $50.
Let me know guys. Thanks for all the replies!

I'm about to start test fitting an LS2 in my engine bay. I'd like to run custom lines and keep the A/C, thinking about doing a write-up on what it actually takes to get that accomplished. So many people just do the LS swaps, RB swaps, etc. and don't retain the A/C and regret it later.
