I bought this car for $1500 a while back and replaced the fluids, spark plugs, wires, and fixed a couple small problems but after 3 days of driving the engine started knocking really bad...

So after letting it sit for a few months, i put my V8 S14 Build on hold to get this car going as a daily driver...

This is the Idler Sprocket bolt, mine was bent a very tiny amount but we didnt know that until after I almost destroyed my head with it.

I win

Well I got the cooling/thermostat problem fixed, it was just air in the system...

I replaced the thermostat with an OEM Nissan one and did a coolant system burp with a boofie tool made for it and it stayed at temperature for a long time at idle but as soon as i took it down the street, it gained temperature really fast and got all the way up to the first bold bar, I pulled it into the driveway and let it idle until the gauge was between the 2 bold bars then turned it off and soon after it burped huge amounts of air out of the reservoir and sucked all of the coolant out of the reservoir and into the engine, i refilled the reservoir and now everything is dreamland...

I've been driving the car for 2 days and last night I wired my speedometer and the odometer i reset to 000,000 started moving along with the trip meter, woo hoo!!!

What did you paint the bay with? And what color will you be painting the car? (Assuming you will because the current paint is horrid!) Great job on everything else though!

thanks man, the engine/header/upper timing cover/intake manifold are painted with VHT Flat Aluminum paint

seems like you put hella money and work rebuilding the motor and what not. but then you downgrade to shocks and springs? why not get a new set of coilovers rather than wasting money on lowering springs and oem replacement shocks?

^^^ that wasnt downgrade. Those coils are old. Thats a really good spring shock setup, you just cant go fanboy low haha

It's just a reliable daily driver that can drift, I put all of the nice aftermarket parts on it because I was like, Why not have a lightweight flywheel and driveshaft? lol I was saving the rest of my money for my V8 S14, I don't think I have a build thread for it yet, but i've been working on it since Nov 2009

hey bro nice clean builded!!!! give you props!! how much did you spend to rebuild you motor and where did you get the parts a im rebuild mine but havent got any look with parts yet ;(

Engine Machine Work and rebuilding the head was $400
Getting the shortblock built was $150
eBay Rebuild Kit Was $310
Different set of crank/rods was $80

The suspension was a christmas gift from my brother, the old coilovers were hella shitty, and i was tired of breaking my back on 8K/6K. The streets here are extremely bad, like knock off your oil pan, break your engine mounts bad... lol

thanks man, it was alot of work, and it was also my first time building an engine, now it has over 1500 miles with no issues except the upper timing chain guide breaking loose because i never got the memo from Nissan to leave it off.

good work, although a lot of unnecessary pictures
about the motor work:
did you replace the freeze plugs? motor looked pretty cruddy
new pilot bushing?
from experience the rod bolts are the KAs weakest link
IMO those are usually a good idea to replace with ARP ones

and because I'm a hater:
loose the tow-hook plushie
it was wack even when I did it 5 years ago
