So, I had a very clean 1991 white SR hatch for about 2 years until it met it's demise. I wrecked it :thumbup
old car:

and then I did this
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs274.snc6/180243_1620831686082_1395120096_31614386_7283525_n .jpg
Bashed up the qtr panel pretty bad. Blew out the PS rack, ruined the whole driver side of the car basically.
Started to tear it apart and part it out
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/hs059.snc6/168929_1620831526078_1395120096_31614385_7452828_n .jpg
THE GOAL:
Buy a new shell
Put in suspension, engine swap, and interior out of old hatch
TIMELINE:
I've worked on this for a whopping 2 weekends total basically. I'm building a new car from the ground up. The fun part is all the little modifications to the chassis that need to be made to drive around as low as I plan too. Cutting up the wheel wells, tucking the harness, etc. I will be done with this car this weekend, so a 3 week build essentially. These cars are not hard!
SOLD:
5 lug, Z Brakes, and old 5 lug wheels, Kouki tails
PURCHASED:
- Red/White DMAX Tail lights
- 17x9.5 +12 Rota Grids
- 88 Rotors Drilled and slotted rotors all around + new front and rear pads
FUN STUFF:
Powdercoated the wheels and intercooler piping super gloss white. My friend Denny Young is a local powdercoater in Summerfield (outside of Greensboro) and has awesome prices and a super quick turn around time. Check him out at DJ Powder Coating (http://djpowdercoating.com)
PROGRESS:

Got the shell from Kelly. It's been converted back to 4 lug, I bought it as is (it came as roller and then Kelly removed the wheels and suspension at my house).

Didn't take any pics of putting the engine in the car. But here's how it is now. Engines in, intercooler pipings all hooked up, harness is all hooked up, harnesses are tucked. Test fit pics. This is static height in the air.

Will update as I finish it up. All I really have left to do is install the new diff, driveshaft, fill it up with fresh coolant and gear oil and put the fenders and tein tie rods on and it should be all done. Enjoy.

Nice man... it was a shame to see your white hatch messed up. (I'm a friend of Curtis and Richard.) I'll stay tuned to see what else you have in store. Me and Richard will have our hands full with my coupe here shortly.

What size tire are you running?
TrustS13
02-02-2011, 06:56 AM
Been getting this question a lot.
I went with a 235/40/17 vs a 225/45/17. I'm super glad I made this decision too, the 45 profile is just too tall for being this low up front and it looks a ton better. They are stretched, but not too much. They didn't have to use a cheetah to mount them, Also a 235/40 is actually a smaller diameter than 225/45

2/2/11 This morning before work I put on the fenders and put a front wheel on. Going to need to hammer the fender wells more for wheel clearance

Car needs to be washed bad.. Hopefully I will get a chance too Saturday if it's warm enough. Curious to see how this color looks, the car was re-painted 2000 Maxima Charcoal Gray about 4 months ago. It needs to be wetsanded and buffed though, but it looks pretty decent overall!

Need to upadate this! So In all the pics the rear was at -5* toe wack. Installed ISIS Rucas, Megan traction arms, and Godspeed Gen 2 toe arms and took it to the rack again. Got the rear camber out to -3.4" and set the toe to 0. I'm really happy with this. I used a credit card to measure the fitment. Removing all that camber raised it about a inch and I think it looks MUCH better! I'll get some good pics soon, but in the mean time.. I did some sliding the other day,

Wanted to update the thread but I've been busy driving/drifting the shit outta the car! Installed all new aftermarket rear parts, got it re-aligned. Went from -5* to -3.4* rear camber and 0 toe. Front has about 3* camber. It drives awesome. Also ran into my friend who had my old exhaust I made a while back. We just traded axle back sections (he wanted my can) so put my new exhaust on. Cars a little louder, still sounds awesome. It's big HARRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I like that it clears the rear bumper, and clears a kit if I ever get one.
Frankie had the car repainted, and it was decent, but had a lot of orange peel. It was never wetsanded or buffed, or detailed afterwords. It did also have some low clear spots on the passenger door and down under the body line on the doors. I wetsanded, trizac'd, and buffed the whole car. Takes foreverrrrrrr but the results are awesome. Wish that the car had bodywork done, has a lot of random little dings/wavy body but oh well, it still looks decent. Color pops like crazy in the sun. It was pretty orange peeled before, its nice and slick now, amazing how a wet-sand and buff can change a whole car.

Wow, thanks for the compliments guys! The car is on D2 coilovers, the front collars are removed, rears have about 1 inch left to go.
If anyone missed the specs, the wheels are 17x9.15 +12 no spacers on the car, tire size is 235/40/17 (some cheap Nankangs I got for 210 NEW off tires-easy.com )
I bought 5 (random I know right) wheels for $100 off some local guy, I got 3 of the 180sx meshies (painting white) and 2 steelies. The drift event in is in 2 weeks! I hope to have the lowest turbo 4 cyl car out there (lots of guys have raised there cars and gone v8 this season) I'm planning on getting 2 4 lug bolt on 25mm spacers so the 15" 180sx wheels are at least somewhat-flush hah
Today I am swapping back to a stock manifold (for spoolup) and replacing all the turbo related gaskets, trying to eliminate a turbo leak the car had! This should do the trick though. Also my LCA are smashed on this car, going to install my LCA off my white hatch that are in a little bit better shape and the new tension rods. I'll be sure to take pics now that I have my camera again.. also here are some pics I took the other day

Spend the weekend swapping out the turbo manifold to a stock one (for spool up) and replaced ALL turbo related gasket
- S15 7 layer OEM Manifold to Head gasket
- OEM Nissan turbo gasket
- OEM Nissan elbow gasket
- OEM Nissan inlet/outlet gaskets
- All new turbo locking tabs
- New 3" Downpipe gasket
Needless to say, the car is a new beast! It spools up much quicker and sounds awesome. Need to get a video of and turn the boost up to 14psi. It's on about 9-10psi right now. Here's how the weekend went..

Damn sad to see it go, such a nice clean coupe! But im sure what you'll do next will be just as clean and dank!
But did you ever happen to find out how much camber you had when you switched tires and got it re-aligned?
Thanks guys. I did - I ended up dropped to a 215/40/17 all around on a 9.5 +12. You can easily run -1.5* front camber and it will fit. I ran -2.5. I dropped my rear to -1.7* camber. It was literally aligned with a credit card and had some poke though. I loved how it looked and the car drove a lot better than with all the camber.
Took this pic the same day I got it aligned

Thanks bro that helps a lot because I'm going to be running 17x9.5 +15, but I didn't want to run as much camber as you were running before you switched tires. Thanks again, and I loved your coupe! Good luck with what's next! :)

I got offered 8k cash for the car... it's a S13.. I could build another one.. but I think I may be getting out of s-chassis cars, I'm not sure. I'd really like to do a sil-front RB25 car. we will see.
I don't mean this in an offensive manner but:
You got $8k for an S13?

Was a good car/build. Props dude. The simplicity is what made it work. Even the ugly stock S13 wing looked cool.

WTF Danny, this is briggs BTW. I cant believe you sold the car, though 8K is a lot for any s-chassis. I thought you were joking on CN. Kinda made me feel sad when I read that post. Whatever you get next I know the same simple/ clean-ness will go into that car. looking forward to updates.... Update your shit on CN bro.....
still amuses me how a bone stock coupe can be someones "inspiration"
Too bad you sold it. But now you have an excuse to get real wheels and start fresh.

To update you on the car, kid who bought it can actually drive it now lmao.
Adjusted the clutch point that better suited him for his height. We were gonna raise the rear like an inch because the roads here suck balls and its eating the tire but it seems like the threads on the coilovers seized up. Check it out another day. Also dont understand why lower body of the coilover is in 2 pieces, stupid in my opinion.
Overall, pretty damn nice car in person, couple paint chips here and there but have to be like a couple feet away to see them. Went to an event last weekend and people were all around the car.
Only plans for the car atm are hallman mbc, 550 inj, and nistune.

I never had an issue with the coils.. I would soak them in PB blaster over night. I've also heard of some people putting them in the freezer.. Not sure. Also - I just aligned the car so if you guys raise/lower it you need to re-align it. You also have to learn how to drive a slammed car too, but that will come with time. I told him via text I would just do a news paper pull on that driverside fender. Just jack up that side, stuff newspaper in between the fender and tire and lower it slowly. It should pull it enough to where it won't rub anymore. It was barely rubbing when he got it, I cambered it out too much on the alignment rack.

Gonna probably disassemble the coils and clean them.
Told him to do a newspaper pull but he wants to raise it so he can get in through the back gate. Bottoms out on the rail going over the speedbumps. Only gone once and it was horrible lol.
Hes still learning how to drive around so it will take a month or 2 to learn the roads and railroad tracks around here.

Enters through the front gate now. No figuring out how to get in through the back gate unless he wants to damage the frame.
Its not like were gonna raise it super high. Probably an inch at most so he stops rubbing from the shitty roads.

Theres no dealing with the roads here in SC. Have potholes that you cant see the bottom of, missing chunks of the road, deep ass dips, etc. Never seen such bad roads in my life. Guess FL has it good lol

Well not really an update, but here's whats up for this Fall:
- Found a 91 Gray hatch shell for cheap
- Gut it, maybe track car build?
- Bought a S14 SR20
- Fenders Tubed
- 18x9.5 +15 P45rs scooped up for cheap already
- Bought a new steering wheel, hub + qr
- 5 lug
- Kouki aero (? MAYBE ?)

Got a deal too good to pass up on.. 18x9.5 +15 they will do for now. I'm excited for 18's on a S13. Any opinions on powdercoat color? My room mate powdercoats (did all my old stuff) and I can do any color, or leave them hyper black.
Excited to see how my motor looks when it gets here. Should be here next week. Plans are pretty standard.. FMIC/3" turbo back. Debating on gutting this car or what. Kit ideas? I'll probably scoop up a set of Kouki tails as well.
hope your "good deal" was free.

Yes on Kouki aero Danny. Glad to see you got another s13. I say strip this one like you did the white hatch.
If your not running ac, I say go with the PBM mid mount intercooler.

You plan on tubing the front wheel wells? Will you be able to pass tech at SWD with the tubes? Dont they go by the Formula D rule book?

Tubs are cool in any drifting series that I've ever seen. Usually, anything in front of the strut tower & front cross member can be modified infinitely - excluding the tension rod pickup point. It's not all that uncommon to see FD cars with no front fender well at all.

Not at all, my white hatch I built from the ground up and wrecked it.. Check page 1 of my thread. The gray car I built very quickly and did drive it and have a lot of fun with it. I really had no intentions of selling it, but when you are offered a great value for it, I couldn't say no. I knew I could build a new car and not cut as many corners with the extra $ :)
I don't have a build thread for my white hatch, but it was pretty well put together, nearly everything off of it went into the gray coupe.
Right on dude.
Sorry if I seem presumptuous but I cant know everyone on the internets car history. Im getting old and weed is legal in cali, I dont have a lot of memory space left lol.

From what i heard, you can pass tech with tubs, tube and whatnot up front. I spoke to someone last weekend and swd doesn't care if you stitch/mod your subframe and shit or not. Unless you are trying to go pro-am/FD or have a drop top you can pretty much do whatever you want. If you have a cage, you have to go by the rulebook building it. Bolt-in? I dunno if they have special treatment for that or not. I've heard mixed things but nothing ever from Doug about all the rumors going on. I'm not naming names but some people get away with shit while others dont. When in doubt, ask Doug.

Cool, you should start a build thread or keep updating this one. Why did you sell the grids and have the car for sale for 10,000? What did you end up doing with that exhaust? What was rattling? And you didn't need to raise the car, just turn the rear upper control arm to add more camber it would have fixed it. I still miss this car but am having fun putting together my new car.

traded the grids to my buddy but we traded back like 2 weeks later cause i missed them ha, but i just have the old exhaust sitting around now, considering selling it but idk yet, the front right fender/hood/trunk rattled real bad but i fixed the trunk and fender but the hood still rattles pretty bad, had to fix a huge hole in the downpipe yesterday but that didn't take to long, i cant break the front two coilovers loose for the life of me, im just trying to raise it like an inch so i dont scrape as bad EVERYWHERE ha but other than that cars doing good, everywhere i go people are asking questions, i plan on saving to buy the apexi power fc so i can get a tune in the near future, hope all is well with your new project
