I work at Tanabe Racing Development, and I can confirm Komatsu was involved in a serious accident two nights before D1. This is why he could not attend D1GP. I cannot divulge the details of his accident, but he has been in critical but stable condition. The accident cast a very somber tone for our team since D1, but we are hoping that he will recover and be joining us in the future.
We ask for all your thoughts and prayers for Komatsu's recovery.
-Mike
Sidenote: Komatsu was never acually a D1 driver in anyway. Many are mislead to believe he is part of the D1 series which he is not. Bai is the one who acually is.

damn...just goes to show you never know what can happen behind the wheel....any details on how it happened? i mean drifting accident? regular traffic accident? whatever it is i hope he fully recovers, had a good friend of mine in a pretty bad accident admitted with critical but stable condition and he's still recovering, been almost 5 months. just hoping for the best.

Probably for the same reason that Japanese news services don't report on American traffic accidents.

Very good, he does have some very good skillz, im glad he is ok
dang that really sucks... i just kinda wonder why some ppl think it's a driftin accident. it just says he was in an accident. could be anything. not trying to diss anyone, just simply making a comment. i certainly hope he will recover and be able to keep driving.

umm no. i along with others went to signal auto (torrance) and emailed them in japan. he was in a drifting related accident the night before d1.

there is no detail as to where he was drifting, however it is indeed dangerous to drift on public streets.
