hey,

i just installed this HKS Super blow off valve:

http://ebay1.ipixmedia.com/abc/M28/_EBAY_371837fb5aac19d4d27264448ea5ee9f/i-4.JPG

it's nice and sounds nice but my car stalls for no reason every now and then. i head a solution is to a: tighten the spring or b: recirulate the vavle, i'd rather not recirculate it and i can't find out how to tighten the spring on the valve, is there any other solutions to to my problem?

thanks

Hey.. cool blow off valve. If you can give us a little more information that would help a lot. Is it a KA-T? SR20DET? What kind of MAF setup are you using? Does it usually stall at any particular time, for example when you let off the throttle or before you're boosting? If it's totally random it may be a little harder to diagnose.

My guess is that if it's stalling when you let off the throttle that you're going to need to recirculate it. With a MAF and an atmosphere vented blow off valve you're losing air that the engine already accounted for in the air/fuel ratio when you let off the throttle so the injectors will be spraying too much fuel for air that is no longer there causing you to run rich. The engine then sees you're running rich and tries to lean out the mixture, all the while you're finishing shifting and getting back on gas.. building boost while the a/f mixture is leaning out. Not a good situation. That could be your problem, or I could be completely wrong. I'll tell you right now, I don't own a turbo car so it'd probably be a good idea to wait for some more advice.

I hope this helps a little anyway. :)

i put the little red SR in the title to say SR20DET as my eninge, maybe i'll be a little more clear next time. yeah it right now seems totally random, its just the stock MAFS from my KaE that i rewired. and i know what you are saying about the injectors getting a bad signal, but as long as the bov isn't really leaking air it shouldbe alright,,, right? as i would much rather have an Atmosphere venting BOV so that i get the sound. THE SOUND so what can i do, maybe move the mafs after the BOV but that might be hard, i did a whole custom I/C and piping setpu that i don't want to take apart.

I'm pretty sure there is no adjustment on that BOV. Try using a T connector and connect both nipples to the vaccum source. Should help the BOV stay closed at idle.

i have that same BOV... no adjustment... just a simple drop and use BOV...

i have the same problem einherjar... i cope with it...
but i never stall..i just leave it in ear when im breaking and then clutch it in when its around 1000rpm...

where did you hear this from? asking because i wanna know if it works so i could do it too... what does the top nipple do?? isnt that for a boost controller..?

This BOV has 2 nipples for a push/pull design. The bigger nipple hooks up to the vaccum source (throttle body) and the smaller one on the end hooks up to a boost source (T'd in with boost controller). Hooking it up as a push/pull design makes the BOV respond real quick but at the sacrifice of leaking at idle. My Bro has this BOV on his car and we found that the best way to keep it closed is to run a T to both nipples.

I know it sucks cus the "ppsht" wont sound as nice, but your best bet is to simply recirculate the BOV. I have a Blitz SS BOV venting to atmosphere, and on hot days it stalls like crazy... not to mention the fact that it makes me run rich as hell (Walbro + Atmopsheric BOV = yikes)

I'm going to recirc it later on this week, so I am hoping that the motor will perform a LOT better as a result...

didnt u say your car kept stalling because of the bov on the palo alto meet.

i raised the idle, so far it seems to help.

If its worth anything, ive seen over 40 SR's with all kinds of different Atmo BOV's and none of them stall in any weather.
RB's however seem to have issues.

they are most likely running a piggyback like an S-AFC or something like that to control the air ratio...

thats something im getting soon...

but for the T off thingy, i tee it off to the same line the larger nipple is hooked up to right?

Sure did!

It mostly happened was we were coming around corners that went uphill, and there would be a line of cars in front of me, so I had to break pretty hard, and then -- STALL.

Late last week when it was HOT AS ALL HELL up here, I couldn't go more than two blocks without her stalling on me. Got annoying really fast and that's when I decided to recirc.

My cat will thank me also, cus my car is basically pissing gasoline out of the exhaust :P

I got the flange earlier this week, so I'm gonna recirc it this weekend prolly; you can check it out at the next meet and I'll tell you how much better it is ;)
