View Full Version : L.D.S. Takata Service Ramp/Raiser

If anyone has the April 03 Young Version magazine on page 70 you will see a ramp made by L.D.S. Takata that has a very gradual increase and raises the car about 10CM off the ground. I thought this was a great idea because I only need about ~5CM to get a floor jack under certain portions of my car. Also I like this because it seems A LOT easier than driving up onto blocks of wood, and also safer. The ramps seem to be made out of a high strength plastic type material so that there lightweight and are easy to lug to the track. If I had a scanner I would put some pics up.
Anyway what Im getting at is would anyone be able to make, or manufacture something like this. If any of you guys know people, or are people who could come up with something like this, let me know. I have searched and havent seen anything like this state side. All the ramps over here have way too much of an inclination for me to even get my car up, since its lowered. I know it would be possible to make one out of wood, but a metal or high strength plastic material would be ideal. Thanks in advance guys!:)
Whats hard or unsafe about driving up onto blocks of wood?
I use 2 1x4's staggered so I go up 1" at a time, works great.
Only advantage I see of actual ramps would be if your car isn't running they would be easier to push the car up onto.

or just get a piece of wood and cut a gradual incline into it. But make sure its wood imported from Japan first. ;)

I've got a pair of ramps that raises up to about 8 inches I think, forgot. Just bought it like a week ago. I just did an oil change on it. If you live in Long Beach, then I think they should have it too. I bought my pair at Kragan's for $19.99. These are made of plastic and can withstand up to 6000lbs.

In no way am I trying to imply the "if its JDM, it must be better" type thing. I just like this idea because sometimes when you drive onto a block of wood, it can slide out from underneath you. This is just a no brainer, its angled so slide it underneath your tire a bit, than drive up onto it.
Cutting a gradual incline into wood is fine, however a high strength plastic material would be ideal for its light weight. The only reason I am posting about this is becaue i HATE using a siccor jack to get the car raised up a bit, then using a floor jack to raise it more. This is what I had to do over and over again when I went to the track just recently (heres the thread about it: http://www.zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?s=&threadid=35848&highlight=streets+of+willow ) I just think this would be quick and convenient, especially at the track.

I was just trying to suggest an easier, cheaper, and less elegant way of solving the problem.
If it slides, just get some rubber matting and a staple gun and staple the rubber matting to the bottom. I completely understand about wanting something lighter to lug around to the track, but most ramps I have ever seen are far too steep to clear my front lip, even at stock height.

Exactly! Thats why I like this idea of these ramps. Gives enough room to reach the fron cross member to jack from the front, and give more than enough room to access the diff in the rear. These are made specifically for cars that are VERY low, and also have body work. I was just wondering if anyone could custom fabricate something like this.
Oh, and I found them! Scroll down to the bottom of the page

Aaron,
You got me thinking about how $hitty it is to raise my (our) cars when you told me about the hydraulic siccor jack. So i got hinking and remembered seeing something in Young Version. Atleast with this you can use a real solid jack, and it seems very safe. No more teeter-tottering and having a balancing act for me...

Well Im probably going to buy them. You can try them out and see if you like them. Bwalker has quite an intersting home made wood ramp himself, pretty crazy.

Yea, that ramp is huge. This seems like a good product. Hopefully raises the car just enough for an oil change too!

Hey, if you do buy this and it works spectacularly, would you do me a favor and post the dimensions (length, height, distance of inclined part). That way when I make mine out of wood, it will take alot of the guess and check out of it.

My S14's dropped with tokico springs, dont' really know how low, but it's pretty low. You should try the Kragan in OC, feel free to email me if you got any questions. And dont buy the metal kind, it's a piece of sh!t, I returned it and got the plastic one instead. Here's my email

Arron, I didnt thing you would have to laydown let alone jack up that car of yours.. (for the morons of the board, look at his sig)
wtf, is it Aron, Aaron, Arron, K-izzledoggy?
Next on the list, how to easily jack up your lowered vehicle. Ok, your going to need some duct tpae, four hydralic ram/lifts and, bubble gum.
1) Open gum and discard wrapper.
2) Insert gum into mouth.
3) Use duct tape to secure ram/lifts to teh four corners of your vehicle.
4) Remove gum from mouth, and insert in ignition.
Now when you need to jack (off) yourself up, just turn the ram/lifts downward and your on the move. Now if you can only find a way to start you vehcile....

Here is what I use and they are cheaper than the Takata ramps. I have used these for over 5 years, so they are quite durable and easy to throw in the car and take to the track. They are low enough to get my lowered Z32 high enough in the air to get a jack under the crossmember.
