well for his car looking the way it does, i wouldn't worry :D ... but u'd be surprised what kind of information people can get just from a license plate. for instance you'd never catch a type R owner posting his license plate along with his pic on the net. i can guarantee u that if a itR ownder did that, his car would be stolen within a week.

similarly a 240 ownder that goes, i did a rb swap! i did a sr20 swap! i got this and this and this mods! thats just a big target for thieves. posting ur license plate number makes it ez for them to find you. license plate -> vin -> go to dealer and make a key = bye bye expensive import sports car with mods.

for nissan its not as bad as honduh, but with more and more kids buying and modding their nissans, demand for parts goes up and so does theft. btw these bastards actually lurk on honda forums trying to get easy marks.

Is your car is a coupe? It wouldnt be considered a sil-80 if it is.

A license plate number can be tracked by the police officers and the State DMV to the registered owner of the vehicle and the vehicle's VIN. The VIN you can get off any parked car at any time in any place, together with the license plates of the vehicle since those are kind of a stationary thing on the car. As far as how that will benefit thieves... I don't understand. You can't just walk into a Nissan dealership and demand a key cut because you have a VIN of a car. You have to show proof of ownership of vehicle. I.E. Certificate of Title, Buyers Order, Registration Card. The place I've worked for requested to see all three and then some information before I was allowed to request a new key for them. The point of my post is, that's bull****. I don't know if you've even looked on EBay, but all the cars there have their VINs posted. A VIN is a visible thing on a vehicle. Nissan even used to etch them into the windows of certain models. Knowing someone's VIN and plate number isn't worth ****. Point, blank.

P.S. Don't mean to piss you off or anything. ;)

cut the hood so you can close it!

you could remove the battery and port the intake to where the right s13 headlight would be, for a short ram cold air sort of thing

Blurring out the plates is just easy insurance, case in point look at the following thread. Not a theif but still could have been easily avoided if the plates were blurred :(

yeah, you could just have like some sort of air horn where the other s13 headlight would sit and 1 straight pipe to the MAF and throttle body

just a note; when I see a 240 in a parking lot I don't know what is done to it, no real point of looking up the VIN.
I'm sure there are dealership that would cut a key for a vin without proof of ownership. Regardless, the S13 is easy as hell to steal.. I can use a slim jim or a wonder tool to pop mine open in around 10 seconds and if you go to autzone and buy a new ig. cylinder you can just plug it in. Or just use a screwdriver after yanking the old one with a slide bar hammer.

Anyway the point is I could read your history, find the mods done to your car, and look your plates up. If I'm from near you it might be worth my while to use your home address (the one the dmv will give me if I ask about your plate numbers) and I can jack your **** while you sleep. The only clue you would have is when you hear the car start, and by then its too late.
Its unlikely, but if you have a sr20 or other engine, you are looking at a car thats 15 years old but still worth and EASY 2000 dollars in resale, since JDM engines can't be tracked by law enforcement and they are incredibly easy to move. No questions asked on where you got one from, just say "this came from japan."
Sorry dude, but putting your license plate up is pretty stupid.

How will you drive my car when there is no steering wheel attached to the column and the detachable hub is a unique pattern of ball bearings that is not on any other hub?

California DMV does not give out owners address's to people trying to run plates or vin's anymore unless your a federal officer a state officer or a PD. Or you have possesion of the said vehicle and your doing a lien on the title.

for what it's worth, it's nice to own an S13. Nissan doesn't remember what our key codes are anymore, so VIN searches are useless. At least, that's true up till '93. Dunno about '94+.
