I went out to start my car yesterday and got nothing. Figuring I left my dome light on or something, I jumped it with my friend's suburban. It took two tries but it fired up. I let it run for a couple minutes and then turned it off and tried to start it again. This time I got a click-click-click. This happened for the first couple times I tried to start it after this. After that I would either get one click or nothing. Tee electrical still worked but when I left the car to go home the automatic door lock on the passenger side seemed like it almost didnt want to go.
Today I replaced my battery (needed a new one anyways), got home, hooked it up and it still wont start. The electrical works fine when I first turn the key, and when I try to turn it over I get one click and the dashboard lights fade. Also, when I hooked up the negative terminal, I got a buzzing noise from the EGR fuse. If I jiggled the cable or the fuse, it would stop. Now I figure it is my starter but i anyone knows anything about the EGR thing let me know.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
micah
Hey ya.. sounds like it could be the starter. However.. i don't think it even clicks when the starter is bad. I can't remember. It could be your alternator too. Have you tried turning your headlights on and pumping the breaks? Do the lights dim quite a bit when the break is pressed?
A way to check if your starter is bad, is to push start your car. To do this (easier if you have someone else to help you push):
Manual Trans.
1) Put the car in neutral
2) Turn your car to the ON position
3) Start pushing your car from your drivers side.. go just about faster then walking speed. You don't really need to go that fast
4) Jump in (have your friend keep pushing)
5) Put your clutch down and shift into 2nd
6) While your car is in 2nd, just let go of the clutch. Your car may jerk a bit, but it should be running now! Give it some gas and your on your way! Just don't stall it or you will have to do it again
I managed to push start my car going in reverse down my driveway 10 feet. (Just shift to reverse instead of 2nd!!) It doesn't take much.
If you can push start your car fine and it doesn't keep stalling on its own.. then it is probably the starter.

Thanks for the help. Do you have any idea why this below might be happening? This is exactly what happens when I try to start the car.
When I get in the car I have electrical power. If I try to start it, I get a click and then I cant get anything until I get out and jiggle the negative battery terminal. Then I can get electrical again.
If I turn the key to get electrical and then turn it off again without starting it, the power in the console stays on, even if I take the key out, and my EGI fusebox starts buzzing and vibrating. This stops if I remove the negative battery terminal.
The EGI box will also buzz when I replace the negative terminal but I can gt it to stop by jiggling the cable a little.
If you know for sure what this is let me know. Thanks a lot for any help.

Whoa, i'm now having the same problem. Anyone know what this can be.
My problem is the same except add one more thing. I can charge my battery over night, and drop it in my car. The moment I go to start it the next day, its starts fine the first time. But when I turn it off and try to start it again, it sounds as if the battery got completely drained the first time, "click-click-click-DEAD" doesn't start again. I have a strange feeling its the starter and altenator
ANY INPUT, would help me out A LOT!!!

My problem was the neagtive battery cable. Replaced it and it starts fine every time now.
