So i have this gti-r turbo, it has a few cracks around the wastegate housing, but i heard that was normal. there is one larger one than is like an inch long. Also do these fins look normal? or should i take them to get balanced? Thanks for your imput

I do not have much experiance with this but my .02

Turbine housings are cast, ever seen a turbo glow? youtube it...

The extreme heat that an exhaust housing sees will probably cause those cracks to oppen up, making the wastegate less accurate as it is not fully sealed, over time as that metal heat cycles, the cracks will grow and grow and grow..
See if you can get a machine shop to weld it??

as for the "ballancing?" is there shaft play in the turbo? not so much worried about axial more of in and out play that will cause you the big issues,

Turbos are balanced from the factory, so unless that turbo has been torn appart by a backyard mechanic, or subject to many years of comp surge, and has bent fins, i doubt its out of spec..

I am by no means an expert, but that is my logical take on your situation..

That all sounds very reasonable, it does not look like there are any bent fins, there is a small amount of shaft play, no contact with housing. And ill see if i can find a shop to weld the wastegate if needed, I need my car running asap, but if its just gunna get worse ill take it to a shop. Thanks for your input
