Hey guys. Having a strange issue with a fuel leak. My car is sitting in the garage because it's being worked on little by little. I came into the garage today and could smell gas fumes. There looks like there's a bit of fuel on the floor, underneath the engine bay. There also seems to be fuel stains near the injectors as fuel is leaking out. Strange part is that the car isn't being used; it's still being worked on. Pretty sure this is related, but when I first got the car, I was installing seatbelts in the rear and I heard the fuel pump priming on it's on. Been trying to do any searches on this, but have come up short. What could cause the fuel pump to be priming on it's own?

It is most likely not the fuel pump priming. It is a known fact that s13 gas tanks are tighter that a 12 year old. Meaning that any variation in temperature could be forcing fuel out of the tank through the lines and wherever it can find a place to go. I had this happen the first time I pulled my motor, it kinda freaked me out. Loosening your gas cap to relieve pressure should do the trick.

I loosened my gas cap to no avail. I heard nothing trying to escape. This car most definitely has some wiring issues, however. When I turned the key to the ON position, it took about 5 seconds for the radio to turn on and to hear the chime of the door being left open. The radio also turned off when I turned my lights on, and then came back on.

Geez, haha I guess I didn't read your post thoroughly enough before I initially responded. I'm really not sure why your fuel pump might be priming all by itself. But it really shouldnt be leaking anywhere regardless. Maybe you need new o rings for your injectors while you are at it. I guess start going over the fsm wiring diagrams and see if you can find anything and start looking for places where crappy wiring may have taken place.

Check the hoses to and from the fuel filter and make sure they are tight. I recently changed mine and thought it was tight enough, went a day and it was fine, then couple days later started leaking, had to tighten the clamps even more. Just an idea.

I definitely need to change out the fuel injector o-rings. Noticed a bit of fuel seeping from one of the injectors when I turned the key to ON. Still doesn't explain the random fuel pump priming though. Wiring has definitely been messed up on this car; I've had to clean up a few connections here and there. This car used to be automatic once in it's life, it was manual when I bought it. Any ideas if the conversion could perhaps be causing my dilemma if there was a sub-par wiring job done?

Well, at least now I know why the fuel pump starts priming on it's own. It's like the car keeps resetting itself, as weird as that sounds. It's like the battery gets disconnected and reconnected immediately. Again, turning on the lights, everything turns off, and then comes back. The clock reset, the radio turns off and resets to a default station. Could it be a bad ground somewhere? Not even sure where to start looking for that.

Start with the battery ground cable, It goes down and connects at 2 places on the chassis. I had a bad battery ground when I did my first Sr swap, the car had sat for a few months and the connection was just good enough to operate that radio and lights but as soon as I tried starting it, it would lose the connection. haha, it drove me nuts for several hours. But thankfully it's an easy fix.
