I recently bought a 1990 hatch with a S14 SR20DET swap in it.

Today I went to AutoZone to purchase a shiney new air filter. Before I installed the new air filter, I sprayed some CRC brand MAF sensor cleaner on the MAF sensor because I noticed it was pretty dirty and grimy.

I let the car sit for about 10 minutes, put the air filter on, tried to start it, and fail.

Everything comes on the way it should, no electrical problems, the car tries to start but all I get is the starter firing it's little heart out. I've never heard of anyone ruining a MAF sensor with sensor cleaner, but I think I may have done so.

I dont know if you want to ask a question or just let us know you ruined your maf but:

With a bad maf you should still be able to start the car. You can even drive your car with the maf unplugged (rev max 2400 rpm).

Problem is something else so strart doing the usuall checks.

did you unplug the MAFS when you sprayed it?

try unplugging it and see if it starts

The first thing I did was check to see if the MAF was ruined or not. I left it on there while spraying it as I always have and I tried starting it both with the MAF plugged in and without it plugged in. Both ways it would refuse to start up.

This is why I am so confused. When the key is turned to position two, everything that is supposed to come on comes on. Could it just be a spark plug wire or plug maybe? I'm still learning about cars that's why I ask the questions I ask. Also, I am working on my English.
