Let me just get to the point. my running lights, dash lights, and horn are ALWAYS on. if the battery is plugged in, they are on. Oh and my pop ups are stuck up, and wont close.

its an 89 coupe, and im really frustrated. how do i go about resolving this issue??

start taking out your harnesses looking for cuts and checking with a multi meter those wires of things not working correctly. its a pain. imo buy a new harness u know is good and swap it out (engine bay one), but thats just what i do i hate finding electrical problems it takes about as much time as swapping a harness lol.

well i would definetly start by unplugging your horn haha, next i would start searching all your wires for any rubbing spots in the sense of where two wires could have gotten bald and are now touching eachother naked..and as for what brizanden said...thats going to be very hard cause to my understanding the only harness of that sort that will work with your car is one off another car that is the same year and with the same exact options that yours has (pwr windows, doors blah blah you catch my drift haha) but thats just me dont hold me to that.. by anychance did you drop your car recently? check your wires under your driver side fender, those could be severed...good luck bro

start with common sense, horn and lights all are at the steering column , take apart all plastic around that area and look for the cut, for those things to be on , they must be grounded, (wire touching chassis), like they said , if your car is dropped and you have rubbed the wires bare under driver side fender , unplug the harness , get a soldering iron, some heat shrink , a table and a chair, and start splicing one by one and wrapping in heat shrink tape , then just reroute through engine bay or over the fender brace,
but
i don't think its gonna be hard for you to find , i believe its those two places, fender or steering column joint

look in your driver side fuse panel. you have blown fuses

^^the beauty of all these post is they are true. wiring is a nightmare u just have to look at the wires and charts for refrence and start searching for where they are fucked.

as far as changing harnesses all you have to do is have the same harness for your same engine and chassis type (hatch or coupe) and what ever options you want/need (5spd included). i swapped all my harnesses in my 90 two tone to dual cam with power options harness out of a 93. i had a engine bay harness out of a hatch dual cam for awhile but i had some extra plugs coupes dont use.
i find it easy and generally not expensive to do it this way. given finding the wiring problem will be cheaper its just too much headache for a wire noob like myself.

First i would pull fuses for the items that have problems make sure they turn off without they're fuses. Check, put the fuses back
Then pull fuses for other components that should have no effect on the problem items, get the results.

From there anyway you choose to go should be good. but pulling harness wires for any item, is a bad idea at this point, unless you're sure you have harness damage then well we know were the problem is.

Try and look under your driver side fender well. If your car is slammed, the harness running there usually rubs out and eventually starts to short out like what you're describing.

Most people take off that side fender and tuck that harness a little higher by pulling it out a little from the firewall to gain a few inches to pull it up above the fender frame support.

Here's what I found for you on google: Wiring harness relocation out of wheel well? - Northwest Nissans (http://www.northwestnissans.com/board/showthread.php?t=88085&styleid=16)

update!!

So I began pulling fuses under the kick panel and the source of my problem relieved itself. As I pulled the "Accessories" fuse, all my problems went away(running lights turned off, head lights went down, and dash lights turned off). The even wacky-r thing that happened is they all now work properly, meaning i can turn all the aforementioned items on and off as i please.

Now my next question, what does the accessories fuse power. I'm going to investigate this more in the morning, but does anyone have any hypothesis as to how the accessories fuse being out would let such things work properly? :D

I would bet that some wiring has been done recently and whatever the accessories fuse is going to, is sending power to the hot side of all those circuits.

what do you mean?

i just pulled all relays and fuses(in the engine bay) and the only thing that turned it off was the 75A fuse battery fuse and the M12 plug that connects the engine bay harness to the interior harness.

So someone tell me, how come the accessory fuse is still getting power with both accessory relays unplugged

Because the fuse sends the power to the relay not the other way around

if the car was ever in a flood that could be causing all of this and youre screwed cuz flood vehicles are a nightmare
