This is our original build thread if you want to check it out:
http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/174653-240sx-coupe-track-car-build.html

We’re starting the winter rebuild. I want to post our plans and progress, so guys can offer feedback and opinions on how to make it better.

Chassis:
Fix smashed rear end
Bigger rear crash bar
Tub front fenders
New rad support
New v-mount
Clean up wiring

Motor:
Rebuilt stock bottom end
Brian crower 272 cams, springs and retainers
Arp head and main studs
Apexi .8 head gasket
S15 oil pump
Top mount turbo manifold
Custom intake manifold
Gt3071r .86 a/r
Power fc d-jetro for tuning

Body:
New body kit (same one just with a front bumper and not all fucked up)
Fiberglass doors
New paint

Before the season starts it'll go over to RT tuning for tuning and an alignment.

I’m sure there’s a lot more little stuff that needs to be done too, but that’s the basics. One thing I’m not sure about is those cams. I think 264’s might be better for my setup, but I don’t have any first hand experience with either cam. Anybody using a similar setup have any opinions or advise for me?

This is what the car looked like when we got back from the clinic:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0737.jpg

So we started taking it apart:

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0758.jpg

We couldn't get the passenger rear quarter back into place so we bought a used one. We also replaced the truck, center panel, tail lights, and made a stronger rear crash bar:

And started working on the tubs:

Petty and Brad both drove the car at the clinic and said it was set up well. I am hesitant to make too many major changes for next season. We know it could use some more power. The tubs are needed for the new R/T Tuning knuckles that we got to check out at the clinic and the body work is obvious. If there is anything else I should do over the winter that I am forgetting let me know.

Talk about a new rear crash bar.

There has to be something to give in the car at some point. Strengthening the rear crash bar could cause the damage to just move to another (less repairable) location next time this is crashed.

But judging by the work so far...It looks like you probably know FAR more than me...so im sure you have already considered this and drawn your own conclusions.

Looks good! Keep it up!

turboh224g

dimple dies are from an off road company, gtech I think. I do know that the energy from a crash has to go somewhere. Problem is that when we got hit it crimped a line to the fuel cell. We did not have a problem with the engine but this could have been major. My main goal is to protect the cell.

I'm a little worried about the rear crash bar being too solid and bending the frame if i hit something hard, but the last one crumpled on impact. You can see how messed up things got with the last one and that wasn't that hard of a hit.

About the cams, I found a guy selling BC 264 cams for an s14. He says you can use s14 cams on an s13 since the only difference is a small hole for lubricating the VTC stuff. Can anyone confirm that I can use BC s14 264 cams on a blacktop s13?

Can't wait to see this back in action. :)

I remember when you ran over the pedestrian crossing sign at "Drift Camp" in Maple Grove, haha.

That was actually Kareem that ran over the sign at maple grove. We were there too. Our cars look very similar but we have yellow headlights and a vmount.

Got a lot done this weekend. First we started on the new radiator support. It came out really nice.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0773.jpg
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0820.jpg

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0840.jpg
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0839.jpg

Test fitting the front end:
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0832.jpg
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0834.jpg
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0837.jpg

I also started on the body work. I messed up pretty much every body panel on the car this year so I had a lot of stuff to repair. I bought a new kit since both bumpers were trashed and the sides were pretty banged up too. They gave us the wrong rear bumper so we gotta wait on that. I was able to get most of the panels in primer, but there’s still a lot of little shit to fix.

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0843.jpg
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0844.jpg

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0849.jpg

We picked up a set of fiberglass doors and started swapping parts over to them.
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0850.jpg

Since I’m shaving the upper body line and our locks don’t work anyway I decided to have a little fun with the door handles:
http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0828.jpg

http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj283/turboh224g/IMG_0842.jpg

And I sprayed a test panel for our new 2011 color. It’s called cobalt blue metallic.

We're going to redo the fuel cell in a few weeks. We're going to build a cage for it and drop it lower. The current set up all we did was cut out the spare tire well, weld in a new floor and firewall, welded studs to the floor, then made a bracket that holds the cell and bolts to the studs on the floor.

It was a long weekend but I am very happy with the results. I had the front end planned out pretty well so it went together fast. It also helped having our buddy Brad around to bang out some of the welding. Jamie worked on bodywork all weekend and got a shit ton done. Feeling good so far. Brad picked up steel to finish the tubs and now we can focus on the new turbo piping. Probably won't see Jamie for a month so not much bodywork will happen, but I might get some fab pics up between now and then.

current setup is rci 8? gallon fuel cell, walbro 255lph inline pump, jegs fuel filter, -6an lines, stock fpr, rail, and injectors, full return. All of this is behind a custom firewall I designed in the trunk on top of a flat trunk area. I cut out the spare tire well and made it flat.

new set up will be rci 8? gallon cell, walbro 255lph inline pump, swirl pot, second walbro 255lph inline pump, jegs fuel filter, -6an lines, top mount rail, 850cc injectors, aftermarket fpr, full return. Cell will be mounted 6 inches lower in a protective cage.

So have not had time to do much recently. Had our first child last weekend and surprise surprise that takes up some of my time. Got a chance this weekend to spend a little time in the garage. brad came over and finished boxing around the tubs. Now we just need to pull the motor to finish them. We also test fit the top mount manifold we made and the gt3071r turbo. We will start working on some of the aluminum fab next.

Sweet build man.Was the front smashed up as well ?

This is what the front looked like after the last event (well most of last year actually).

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j12/noname7198/149253_157293014313500_101723283203807_275403_7405 190_n_2.jpg

It wasn't smashed like the rear, but it was in rough shape. I ran over the bumper and destroyed it, the fenders were a little cracked up in a few places, and the headlights were basically held on with zip ties since I broke the old radiator support.

So my updates on the fab/engine/chasis stuff suck I know. Been really busy and haven't had time to post. Just got some bad news from R/T that the new engine won't be ready for April 2nd. So I am going to throw last years engine back in for the first event. Here are pics of the new setup almost done. Also found this when pulling the motor. New urethane mounts are going in.
