Trying to get my kade to tdc.
have the motor on a stand and of course have the plugs out but my problem is that the crank doesn't want to turn, even with a breaker bar..
am i doing something wrong?

Did you try the other direction?

I've been turning clockwise, turning counterclockwise would only loosen the bolt wouldn't it?

Why is it on the stand? Was it running before this?

Irrevelent question but ok..
Replacing Headgasket before I go ka-t

The question was to establish weather or not the motor could be seized.

1. If you are only doing the head gasket then when you put the cams back in...you were on the wrong cycle.....theres 2....exhaust and intake...
2. Loosen one of the cam bolts and remove the cam gear....this will take the tension off the top chain and allow you to rotate the crank....
3. Once you rotate the Crank to TDC reset the cams according to specs...
4. I just did this....but guess what....I didnt machine the head to the block so my $100 Cometic Head Gasket blew after 6 months. Now I am back to a FELPRO with no problems.....Good Luck!

wouldn't taking off the cam gear defeat the purpose of trying to tdc and just mess up the timing?

Ok here's what we need to know to help you troubleshoot. Tell us why the engine is on the stand, what are you doing to it, or what have you done to it. Why are you trying to find TDC?
We need to understand what's going on so we can give you some ideas. There are only a few reasons why it would be that hard to turn the crank, most of them aren't good.

nope, not if the timing chain is installed incorrectly. Which is causing the crank not to spin.
Did you use the FSM?

I think i left the car in first gear before i pulled it, could that be the source of my problem? I'm running out of possibilities!

Engine is on a stand because i'm in the process of going KA-T and thought it would be easier to pull the motor out rather than trying to work with everything while it was still in the car. Plus i was going to resurface the flywheel and replace the clutch. I'm trying to get the motor to TDC because i'm in the process of pulling off the head, so i can replace the head gasket..

Only reason that has me eliminating that factor is due to the fact that the motor was running before i pulled it out, so that leads me to think that the timing chain was never touched before.

if the trans isnt on it then the gear doesnt matter. its on a stand so im guessing no trans on if it is still on it then yes put it in nuetral lol. if the engine ran fine before you pulled it you should be able to turn it over....

Have you removed the spark plugs? (NOT trying to be a smart ass)

Thought so, just thought i'd throw it out there. lol

Yes, all spark plugs are removed

I assume you mounted the stand on the trans end of the engine. Is there anything touching the flywheel that would keep it from moving. That is if the flywheel is still on there

if you did not remove the flywheel
take it off

Does this matter if the transmission is not still attached and still in first gear?
His resistance to removing (and eventually resetting) timing seems to be among his issues here, but what do I know?

flywheel is probly making contract with a bolt head on the engine stand
it happen to me
took flywheel off and i was golden to rotate

If none of the above works, it might have seized maybe due to surface rust on the cylinders. Spray some wd40 in the cylinders and some oil than try to rotate. But that should be last resort, it happened to my friend when he accidentally left a wet rag in the holes.

i dont think thats the problem, oh and im pretty sure you dont ever want to turn a motor CCwise.

it happens to the best of us.
like the time i forgot to put the dustshield back on during a clutch job and i already lifted that bitch of a tranny back in and bolted everything down.
