so i have a 98 sr blacktop with a top mounted turbonetics turbo..
when i got the car there was no catch can, just a breather filter which i never had a problem with till now

whenever i hit full boost it spits oil out of that breather..
my first thought was the pcv was bad letting boost get into the valve cover.. well i checked it and there was no probem it held boost just fine..

next thought was maybe a turbo seal went bad letting boost get thought the oil drain into the oil pan.. well by doing a boost leak test, i found that no air comes out of the dip stick, oil cap, or the breather..

next guess was the rings.. so i do a compression test and they are 143,145,145,143 and ive seen online that 150 is good for an sr so the rings seem to be fine..

the car runs and drives just fine.. i just drove the car from south florida to north carolina and it seemed perfect

Im at a dead end.. what else could it be? or does anyone have any ideas?
thanks

Yea get a catch can. Or you can redirect it to the turbo by re-plumbing it into the air filter pipe for the turbo. But that can produce smoke and I think it gunks up the turbo. OR you can just have a breather and it will make a mess.

Most likely the stock one was removed because you have a top mount and cannot fit one now. I had to remove my stock catch can when I installed a tubular manifold (bottom mount).

well even if your worried about the gunk/smoke when you route it back into the intake you can always run a aftermarket catch can in between..

and your probably right about the removal for the top mount, but still thats just being lazy imo

well its been like that for the two months ive had the car and never had an issue with it.. i guess i just gotta get a catch can and hopefully there isnt a issue that the catch can is just masking

as long as its not pouring out or anything excessive and its not running poor... get a can and call it a day

they are pretty cheap

*DING DING DING DING* No matter what you try to do, its blow by. Only thing that can tell how bad is a leak down test.

Catch can will not fix the problem, it will just keep you from getting oil back into the intake tract. Then again, not a fucking issue since nobody runs a catch can in here the way they were intended to be run. Catch can is supposed to be routed back into your intake to add a vacuum into the system. Helps seal the rings better if there's a bit of a vacuum.

PS: Is this an S14 or S13 blacktop? S13 valvecovers sucks for buffling...might be getting extra oil out of the valve cover.

that is exactly what i intend on doing.. removing the breather and adding a catch can with the other hose ran to the intake..
and its an s13 blacktop..
someone else also mentioned that oil maybe getting by the baffles in the valve covers

typical PCV gone bad...
had the same issue when i went to the track a few months back. The drive there was fine and after 2 passes down the track it started pouring oil out of my breather filter on the valve cover.
Went home and replaced my PCV valve and it fixed the problem.

this is copied from a post of mine...
It helps to really understand the crank case system.

Think about it like this:
The piston makes pressure when it goes up right?... Well it also makes pressure coming down.
This pressure has to travel through the motor so it can be safely vented. Under higher RPM's the pressure is so great it can not vent quick enough. Suction is needed to assist the ventilation of crank case pressure.

nicely put

there's a huge thread that "solves" this problem and shows you how to correctly route the piping and placement of everything so you'll never have this problem again. i plan on doing it sometime, because i'm filling my catch can quite often with oil.

yeah i saw it.. i hooked up a catch can and it seems to be perfect now
